What is the best way to mount a winch on an 880. I was thinking a backing plate under the hood.
I have a roll cage on it. Another option would be to bend pipe around the front end and attach to the roll cage where it is attached to the body. It would look like a front bumper. I could then attach the winch mounting plate to the bumper.
Anyone have one attached they could send me pics of?

Hey Snowman,

While mine likely isn't the best way, it works really well. I decided to tie the front and rear bumpers together for added strength when pulling.

This is the combo brushguard and winch mount I built for my 950. It is attached to a full wrap angle iron bumper and braced from the inside down to the frame using 1 1/4" square tubing, which was bent to match the inner contour of the tub and welded to 1/4" X 4"plate. The plate you see in the first pic was bolted through the tub to another 1/4" X 4" plate which was welded to the top of the inner shaped square tubing mentioned above. It was "fairly" strong, I once hit a 10" pine tree at about 3/4 throttle, hard enough to stop us dead and knock a couple of old limbs off the tree. In the second pic above the headlight you can see the damage... none!

Understand though, the best way is the way that works best for you and your needs.

Mine is kinda similar to Brushcutter.. I have a 980 with2 pieces of 3/16" x 4" flatbar welded to the frame and bent upwards to follow contour of front and ends bolted to the 1-1/2" angle body band. Front bumper is bolted to the body band and front flatbar and winch is bolted to both the body band and the bumper. It is pretty solid.

This is the set-up we used on the BFD. It's mounted on a receiver type tube stub that fits into the mating tube on the front & rear of the machine. Both of the hitch mounts are welded to the steel bellyband and bolted to the bumpers. The bumpers are bolted through oversize plates on the body and also bolted to the band. We pulled a VW off the guardrail in the snow last year, so I guess it holds.

My 950 was sold along with a 980 to a certain miscreant in Illinois. My understanding is that he scavenged the brushguard and put it on the 980, but had to cut it and add some length to get it to go on the taller machine. I have no idea what the present disposition of these machines is but I do know he blew up the engine in the 980 in October of '11, and had already sold the 950. That's pretty much the last I heard of them. I had a lot of work in the 950, and had even played around with an electric forced air induction system(blower) for it, that gave it quite a noticeable increase in performance. I plan on mounting a winch at some point, I bought some 1 1/2 angle for a body band, was wondering how you guys are making those nice bends for the corners. Along with the body band I plan on building a cage with rack for hunting equipment.
