Axle Broke in two....

Well I think they were all right, holes in the axle weaken it.... look's like I'm taken a ride to Whippers repair shop. I'll get some good advice on my options
maybe spline's or smaller dia. bolts for the axle

Broken Axle syndrome.....

Well they were all right, drilled holes in the axle's weaken them as you can see...hey I can fix this I just have to find a 2 oz. bottle of super glue ,or I could weld it but it would be faster if I taped it upOh who am I kidding I'm going to take a ride to Whippers repair shop for some advice on the matter...BTW It's Sunny & 77 Again...

That's right just rub it in. It's sunny here, and actually warm considering,it's 44. But we got a total of 20" of new snow since Friday.

On the bright side..they are a whole lot easier to get out if you don't feel bad about cutting them.

I replaced my axles with keyed axles and sprockets...on the downside, you MUST NOT use the set-screws, they will back out QUICKLY, even with loctite. The hex cap screws are the only way to go. Also, they can be a booger to get off, as the tight machining makes the sprockets hard to move around. I would be curious to know if the splined set-up would better?

I think you need to go splined...smaller pins are easier to fix than axles which is good because if they're smaller, you'll be replacing them often.

George, has a good point. You could go with 1.25 splined axles and then you could just use Max 62mm outter bearings. The Hustler outter bearing flanges are also for 62mm OD bearings so there wouldn't be too much to change there.

There's something wrong with my axle.

REB calls me, says there's something wrong with my axle. This is what he brought over last night.I think it's time for 1" 1/4 axles.

Broken axle.... (After a visit to Dr. Whippers)

I'm going to 1 1/4" axles with a new outter bearings to fix and thats both sides we are losing 3 teeth on the main drive sprocket ( 35 to 32 ) a shot of patient on gurney....due in surgery some time this week.....

Out of the Hospital...Every thing went well...

Got a call from Whipper general medical center last night and Dr. Whipper said the surgery went well and I could pick up the patient...Post operational pic's... Now have 1 1/4" axles and outter bearings..the axle holes are machined so the bolts fit tight no wobble here anymore and the sprocket tube only needed to be bored out to 1 1/4" you don't have to take off the sprockets and put them on a bigger tube so it's a lot easier to do ... new axle, new outter bearing,bore tube larger... also turned the sprocket tube 90 deg. and machined a new bolt hole the other was egg shaped a little and loose...In the sprocket pic it has a new 32 tooth main sprocket instead of my old 35 tooth maybe 5 MPH faster now... Thanks again Whipper...you the Man...

Good thing that Whipper guy is a thousand miles or so from me. I could keep him busy for a long time working on my stuff. He does nice work.

Well I'm torn between to worlds I love going in the water, but I think the springer kit is one sweet smooth ride and my hustler is great in the water
so I don't know if I'm going to springer it I was thinking that I might when I switch to my new body,but if I do I think I will keep my axles so if I want I can switch back to stock , If I don't I'm planning to get a used max 2 for a second 6x6 and I will for sure springer it.....
