  • parking brake?

Apparently my mid 80's Hustler is supposed to have a parking brake? Mine is missing everything-lever, linkage, nothing there. Can anyone post pics or diagram of what i need?

I don't have my brake, I cut it off and tossed it in the trashcan. I just use a 4"x4" block of wood if I am unable to turn sideways on a hill or no trees are handy.

I'm more worried about stalling on a hill and losing brake ability. I understand I will have no brakes if I kill it while climbing a hill. Also would have been very handy when loading in my tilt trailer yesterday.

That's the best thing to do, Dan. The Hustler parking brake is junk. I did the same as Dan and took mine off.......it's pretty much what every Hustler owner does.

You guys that have done away with the parking brake- dont you have problems with not having bra k es on a hill if you kill the engine? Am i correct that if i stall on a hill that i,ll have no brakes? I am very interested in the parking brakeassembly if you havean extra. Please let me know.

I've never had an issue with losing power climbing or descending hills. I don't kill my engine.. never have.. I have a briggs 23 vanguard that runs like a beast. I just dont have a need for the brake. The hustler brake is junk anyway, when it did work it would only work on the right side and it never did get a firm grip on the brake rotor. I know some have installed motorcycle hydraulic brake rotors and calipers on the middle axle.. that would be a better idea if you feel the need to have brakes.

If you stall you have no power. You still can pull back/push forward to break the transmission depending if you are in forward or reverse. The only time you have no breaks is if you are in neutral or both chains to the t-20 snap.

Thank you guys. I guess I misunderstood. I thought I would have NO brakes if the engine was off.
