  • Hustler bearing upgrade using Argo HD kit?

    Hey guys,

I've been thinking about the next stage of my hustler upgrades and I know what I want to do.

Upgrade to new Whipper made 1.25 splined axles and sprockets. Upgrade to 72mm bearings using Argo HDI 4 bolt bearing flanges. And, newer Argo Avenger HDI bearing extensions front and rear.

Has anybody done a conversion from 3bolt flange to 4 bolt on a hustler? How do I make a jig?

Dan the lower 2 holes in the 62mm 3 bolt flange are the same as the lower 2 holes in the 62mm 4 bolt flange.

My new beer holder spilled some on the trails - in it's hair and down it's throat.
    Joe Camel never does that.

Advice is free, it's the application that costs.

I have to agree with Fred- you'll love the Apache Gear stuff. Maybe I'm just biased because they're Whipper's, but all the parts I"ve gotten from him have been top notch.

Dan if you've done the HD upgrade to your Conquest you could use the same pattern and parts for your holes, once you've drilled the top 2 bolt holes. Bolt in the 4 bolt flange left over from the Conquest to drill the top 2 holes.

I've started upgrading the conquest to HDI using the adair argo kit, it just bolts on and needs no drilling. I will replace them as they wear out. Sofar, I have replaced the right front bearing and axle with HDI. I have parts to do another but need to pick up another HDI axle from Ken. As for the Hustler, the bearing flange is not like the attexs, it is more 2 on left 1 on right setup. So I will need to actually use a template to drill new bolt holes in the body and frame to accept the Argo HDI flange. I will also need to acquire a set of HDI bearing extensions and mount those with a plate on the inside of the frame channel.

Ok, if the flange is 2 on left/ one on right are the left to the same as the bottom or top 2 on your old Argo parts? If so you can turn the 4bolt flange 90 deg. but I would only do this to the center axle. Doing that to the 1st and 3rd axle will not let you use the bearing extensions.
