  • Hustler frames

I was recently looking through the gallery pics of the Hustler frames , and they look a lot more robust and better braced than my 2003 Max IV frame . The only weak link I see in the Hustler design , is the set screw spockets they decided to use . This seems like it could be a problem over time , if not looked after on a regular basis ? I suspect this might be a constant head ache , if used with a high hp motor . If this were the case , could a splined sprocket shaft , like the ones Whipper makes , be used instead ?

    Hey MudBug,

I don't really know about other machines frames', as believe it or not, the only AATV I have seen in person is a Hustler. That will change at Marengo, I am sure.

As far as I know, the original Hustlers all came with the bolt through the axle configuration. Meinfeld and I are apparently psychic twins, as we both went with the same keyed sprocket/axle set up.

YOU ARE SO RIGHT about problems getting the sprockets and axles out. Mainly just on the center drive axle. I just posted up about this on my chain tensioner thread. I broke my hand and ended up just cutting the sprockets off of one side. Now, in all fairness, once I got the frame out, a cross brace had a broken weld on that side, so it created some hard and strange rotational force on the drive axle, which could have stuck them somehow.

If I had it to do over again, I would not use keyed axles on the drive axle. But would not hesitate to use them on any axle with a single sprocket, and the ability to line them up perfectly is sweet.
    Hammers should have warning labels.

      boncrshr ,

Thanks for answering my post . I guess on a Hustler application , the keyed axles , like the ones the Max uses , won,t work as good as what you have now .
