  • Hustler Headlights & Igniton

Well looks like I need to pick you all's brains again! Our headlights do not work, so I am going to assume that maybe they are unwired or might need replaced. Any ideas? Hubby is changing out the air filter and gas filter today. Seems like its flooding a little bit. Would be nice to have the lights working so that will be the next project, oh and a new ignition. Is that easy to replace, and how do you access it to change it out? Once he gets his done then maybe he can get mine running. The only real issue I can see at the moment is that we seem to take on water when in the pond , Im not sure where its coming in at yet, and it seems to go really slow in the water. We hope to have our Hustler in Upcoming summer parades around our counties.

    Thank you!

    Ok, several issues here:

Headlights: You can purchase direct fit replacements at Harbor Freight tools or Auto Zone....I think they call them tractor lights or utility lights, something like that, but they come in a black housing. Take your old lights for a size comparison. Just remove the black housing and they will fit right in the current rubber housing you have in your Hustler.

Ignition switch I ordered from Richard Clark.

Taking on water....hopefully someone else will chime in. My story is that I just replaced all of my outer axle bearings, faithfully following the instructions and tips in Mike's axle bearing replacement article, and I was still taking on water yesterday. I'm at a loss..bottom line is that if your bearings are in good shape, wire up a bilge pump and don't worry about it until it is time to change your outer bearings. If you have it in the water, vaccuum out the water in the tub with a shop vac when you get it home, and either clean/re-lube the chains, or spray them good with WD-40 until you do.

EDIT: You will most likely have to take the top off to access the ignition switch and wiring easily.....it could probably be done without it. But if your husband has air tools it is easier to take the top off.

    Hammers should have warning labels.
