  • Rebuilding a 980

I ended up trading a dirtbike for a 980 deep tub. I am rebuilding the whole thing. I have a rotax 503 that is going in it. Now I am re doing the T20. Question is what spring should I use in the driven (secondary) clutch. And where do I buy it in the States. The driven sheaves are a little boogered up, hope I can save them. Can they stil be bought any where?
    Thanks for any info.

Yowzers, a 503 in a 980? That's certainly a different approach. The 980s are geared incredibly low from the factory using dinner-plate sized primary sprockets off the T-20. Your Rotax will certainly have the RPM to get some respectable speed out of the unit, but you would certainly be a lot better off using a big 4-stroke. I'm not an anti-two-stroke guy by any sense of the definition, but there are just some engines that are ill-suited to some machines.

Anyway, you can cheaply pick up a new driven clutch from mfgsupply.com, here: 300782A - 780 Series Driven Clutch for Recreatives Ind Max ATVs | ATV Parts | MFG Supply That unit will come with a green spring, which will be a good place to start.

Thanks, That seems smaller the driven I got now. I will see what happens with the current sprockets. So go with a green spring from these folks?
What sprocket size would you recommend.
