  • Hustler engine choices for a newbie.

    Hi to all.
I recently found and bought.. 3 Hustler bodies, 2 with wheels drive chains in good shape, 1 with a clean but unknown condition transmission, 0 with engines. Soooo. My original thought was to use a golf cart engine I have. But I'm not sure it will fit. Or if the transmission can handle the engine running backwards as golf carts do. Which is why I need some input. I'll post pictures soon.

Welcome Gizmo. Glad to have another Hustler owner here. Pics will be helpful to see what model you have but most of the models seems to have plenty of room for engine swaps. The type of engine will depend on the type of riding you are planning. A two stroke engine is the preferred choice for racing while the four stroke is good for trail riding and other general purposes. The Harbor Freight Predator engine is a popular and affordable choice for many.

The Predator 670 was fairly straight forward, and is FASTER than anything that came in it from the factory. The exhaust is the biggest issue. If you can weld or have a couple bucks to pay a welder to put together a header, it's pretty much a drop in.

For about another $100 I added a remote oil filter kit, an electric fuel pump, and a Honda-style carburetor. Worth it.
