  • Hustler 950 engine sized too small?

I am looking at a hustler 950 but only has a B&S 9 hp engine . Dont you think that is to small. I guess I could put a 18 in it what do you guys think? Is it worth the trouble

That engine is certainly too small for that machine. It seems like there are lots of people on here with Hustlers that upgraded their engines to big V-twins. It shouldn't be too difficult of a swap, and it certainly be worth the trouble if the price is right for the machine. Hustlers are excellent machines and it would be an good choice to buy it if you don't mind doing that little bit of work on the engine swap.

My original Hustler had a 16 Kohler and ran well. I did change the gearing to accommodate the 25" Rawhides. Not fast but went everywhere. Re-engined with a 20hp Kohler Command, very reliable, runs clean, smooth. The Hustler is now my visitor machine. Reliable, easy to learn, easy to drive, goes everywhere.
