I think I saw that on Craigslist for something crazy like $5200. An offer that is about half of the asking price would be much more reasonable. If it was the last year that the Hustler was made, means that it is most likely a 1985. Very nice looking machine though!

If you have the $$$, go for the Mudd-Ox !

I think you're better off with the Argo or a Max IV, if your planning on spending $4k.

Save your money and buy the mudd ox, more time riding, less time fixing,$ saved in the long run, less headaches, and on top of that you've got the best machine made on the planet. Why buy anything else?

The Hustler Bigfoot's a great machine and on par with the Argo or Max in my opinion, but there may eventually be a parts problem as they're no longer in production. $4000 is too much, especially when there may be question about the axles. It looks like a nice machine, and $2000 to $2500 may be a more reasonable price. Liflod's right, if you've got the money, spend it on a Mudd-Ox.

There are some very capable Hustlers that folks have built here on the site and they are as good if not better than any Max or Argo in my opinion also. Unfortunately the $4000 asking price is still too high. Wait it out and see if he gets desperate and comes down on the price. You'd be very happy with the Hustler. Like some folks have mentioned, the availability of parts isn't as abundant as a Max or Argo, but there are a good number of members on here that could help you out with that. Good luck with it.

If you have the coin for a Mudd Ox...don't hesitate!

But if you are looking for a fixer upper...the 980 is hard to beat for lots of reasons. Parts are not really a problem....when it comes to axles, you will probably be having some made, or buying splined axles/sprockets from Recreatives. The Max IV axles/sprockets can be made to work on the Hustler. You will just have to have a 40 tooth drive sprocket machined somewhere.

I agree with the resident brain trust, that 980 is not worth 4000. Maybe 1000-1800 at most if the T-20 has truly been rebuilt and the Kohler is in perfect shape, and the body is sound.
                  Hammers should have warning labels.

All of the Hustler 980,s that I,ve seen advertized for sale lately , that look really nice and don,t need any work , are selling for close to $3,000. If that machine has a new 20 hp B&S , new t20 , new chains , and sprockets ,good tires, but some bent axles though ,thats a negotiating point I,d say. I bet the seller won,t come down below $3,500 much , because he,s got at least that much into it.

                        Moallen ,

That looks like a Hustler 950 to me? Its probably worth the asking price , considering the tracks, the custom roll cage , and what else is on it too. But,, it becomes cost prohibitive unless you live close enough to pick it up , and then drive back to your location. For the price the Mudd Ox is the best deal out there! Nothing even comes close to the price for what you get.

                            Moallen ,

If you have the extra $$ to spend , the Mudd Ox is the best amphib to have because of what it has ,and also what it can do. You can trail ride with it and you can,t with a HydroTraxx 6x6 . Its one Very impressive machine.
