  • Upper Body Paint Removal

I need to remove the silver spray paint that covers the upper plastic body of the hustler I just bought. Any suggestions?

a good steamer will probably lift it with tip dead against the plastic moving in small circles. I had good results on my Buffalo. it depends on how well it was prepared and quality of paint used. If you already have some peeling, it will probably work.

If the body is HDPE plastic not fiberglass try some paint thinner or lacquer thinner to confirm its paint. Hustler bodies oxidize to a silver white when sitting out in the sun for years. The oxidized bodies can be restored with a heat gun (see top of page).

It was painted silver to try and make it look good to sell. It is a fresh coat of silver spray paint. It's not oxidation, although I wish it was. I tried lacquer thinner and mineral spirts and neither worked well. The rubbing did put a lot of static electricity into the body. I guess I will go to an automotive paint store and ask them what they think. Maybe I will just have to paint over it.

Have you tried pressure washing it? Someone had painted a roll bar on my Max IV body and got a lot of overspray on it. I actually just pressure washed it this weekend and it took it all off. Maybe give that a try.

I removed the paint of my attex with old brakefluid. test on a unimportant piont and if it is ok then paint the brakefluid thin over the color and wait a day. there will be a lot of blisters the next day and the paint will be like rubber and you can scratch it of the vehicle.

Try the aircraft paint remover they sell at any auto parts store. It worked great on some of the over-spray areas on my hustler.

Yes, it is plastic and not fiberglass. Thanks for the tips. I will try some out this weekend and let everyone know how it turned out.
