Hey guys, let me apologize in advance for this long post, I recently put a red spring on my 950, so you can all imagine that after hearing all of the hullaballoo about them, I was expecting to be wowed on my first test drive. I wasn't. So then while resealing my bearings I changed to 40 tooth main drives and went for a test ride expecting to be even more wowed this time. I wasn't again. I recently put on a set of 25" Mudbugs also. I have read all those "I had to let off, I thought it was gonna come over" stories. So now I am wondering why is my machine's performance still so HO-HUM? -read on
I had also recently noticed that my throttle lever would move a good bit before the revs would come up (slack). While investigating the possibility of adjusting the cable, I discovered that it was frayed just inside the sleeve. That discovery was made late last Sunday evening, so I planned on fixing it Monday evening after work, and a trip to buy my sons some new camo for turkey season.
We get to the store, I get out of the wife's car, and for reasons unknown to me,
I didn't move my hand. So when my son closed his door, the ring finger of my left hand was caught between the rear edge of the front door and the front edge of the rear door. Which combined with the slamming action of the rear door acted as a giant bolt cutter and all but cut the end of said ring finger off just past the last knuckle.
3 stitches WITHOUT DEADENER, busted/split nail, open fracture 2 x-rays, trip to the orthopedic surgeon, no surgery, and 1 week off work-DANG!!! Oh yeah, did I mention that OF COURSE the door was locked AND the keys were in the wifes purse!!!
So about a minute later I get to take my finger out from between the doors. So now I'm working with a bum finger! I HATE MONDAYS!
So yesterday I managed to get the new throttle cable on and adjusted properly and then I got the WOW effect. The old cable having too much slack wouldn't open the carb enough to build the needed rpms to get peak performance out of my machine. Talk about night and day, all the upgrades I had done were just added parts until I got that Briggs to wake up. And yes I now have some of those "I had to let off" stories.
Again apologies for the long post
Gregg
