Do I have a Hustler 980 Bigfoot??

It has the 18hp Briggs and 26" goodyear tires that have plenty of room to spare before they hit the body. Not alot of room between rear and center tires. I believe I lucked out and grandad left me a Hustler 980 "Bigfoot" model. Heres some pics. Thanks guys

Yes, thats what a Hustler 980 Bigfoot looks like. In fact,, it looks just like the very first Hustler 980 that I bought in Arkansas. You should be a very happy camper. The Hustler 980,s are now getting VERY hard to find.

Sweet I feel pretty sure that it is the "Bigfoot" edition as well. I sure would like to know where to get parts for it. I need a throttle cable and the plastic throttle control for the handle bar for starters. Possibly a Carb, I think my t-20 may be slipping more than it should. I kept shearing bolts on the axle sprockets and the body has some minor cracks forming. Lots of very helpful info on this site. So am I to gather that the Hustler 980 Bigfoot is the "cream of the crop" as far as 6x6's go? Thanks guys

Not sure on the cable but you could ask them. If you look in the how to secton there is some good t20 fix em up tips.

Is there a Bigfoot and then a tall bigfoot? Also does anybody know what the max rpm's this 18hp Briggs can turn before it starts damaging the motor? Im thinking of ditching the govenor and getting a tach to keep an eye on the rev's.

There were 2 types of Hustler 980 BIGFOOTs made. A shorter tub design and then a later, taller tub design. Both will clear 26-27" tires, but the taller BIGFOOT (which you have) will clear the 26" tires even with tracks installed. Those flat twin Briggs aren't designed to be high revving motors. They're goverened at 3600RPM's I believe. I wouldn't recommend ditching the govenor, especially on that engine. If you want a little more speed and high revving cababilities put a 627cc 23HP Briggs Vanguard in there. That's what I did and I am VERY happy with the power and speed. Again great info. I ordered the original throttle and cable from Richards Relics today. Ill be glad to have it running. I might need a new body as mine has some cracks and oxidation has taken its toll. Ive been looking all over for tires and after reading on the forums it appears the 26" Vampire Asx will be what I go with. I would love to get a set of tracks but I really dont think Ill need them with a good wide set of tires. Where do you'll buy sprockets, chains, and rollers from? Also is there any good fix for the forward/reverse linkage? Mine has always wanted to bind up since we have owned it.

You can buy new sprockets ,chain tensioner rollers,and even new upper and lower Hustler Bigfoot tubs, though not the deep tub body like you have now, all from Richards Relics.
