I would use a small Briggs, Kohler or Chinese knock-off with 8-15 horsepower. I would also change the transmission clutch to a torque sensitive model instead of the speed sensitive model thats on there now. With the quad or trike motor you have, you will not get enough air around it or through it to keep it cool.

I agree with MarshallEpp. Best bang per buck.I wouldnt suggest a atv/atc/motorcycle style engine just because of complication with shifting and such. The good ole horizontal style small engine(although not small like they used to be) running a cvt work awesome in these amphibs.
Keep us updated on the progress. Not many sidewinders around!! I bet I can speak for all of us on this but I love seeing the rarer ones up and running!!!

project sidewinder...It Runs!!!!
Hey Guys,I can say it runs but all I can do is go straight until I can get my steering cable for it,I have replaced the bearings, chains,The plates that hold the inner bearings and axles I changed over the steel rotted plates with stainless steel plates and any bolts I have replaced with stainless bolts,Of course I went the hard road when it came to a motor I made custom mounts to hold a Honda 200cc(five speed centrificul clutch) four wheeler motor hooked to the apex trans,I will try to find a different gas tank eventually,For now it runs and moves how fast is yet to be determined,I am excited to get this far with it!!! Hope you guys like it..
