    Hey Roger,

I had thought of that...How clean do you have to get the holes for the Loctite to be effective? And is it effective if done properly?

My thinking is that if I can definitively solve the set screw backing out problem, I will have a reliable machine....
    Hammers should have warning labels.

On my Max IV, I replaced the set screws with socket head cap screws. I bought them long enough to engage the axle with enough space for a lock nut on the cap screw. Once I tighten them with the allen wrench, I tighten the lock nut. They come out pretty easy by using a socket on the lock nut.

It's just like Lance says. That's the best way. If you do it that way, you'll have no problem.

Sorry I havent chimed in on this thread earlier. A big advantage of 1 1/4 axles would certainly be the interchangability of Max bearings and other driveline parts. These parts are still all in production and are easy to get. Finding tripple sealed bearings for a 1 3/16" axle on my Hustler 980 BIGFOOT wasnt easy. It took my usual bearing place ("Buffalo Bearing" in Buffalo, NY on Military Rd.) two weeks to find some, but they were very nice bearings and quite inexpensive as well. If I had more time and resources all of my machines would be running 1 1/4" axles. I think my new green poly body Attex might just have to get the side rails replaced by some big side rails made by our good friend Whipper so I can run 1 1/4" axles and Max bearings.
