  • Look what I went to collect the other day

    Well guys,
I went and pick up my ebay purchase the other day and here it is

I got carried away with the camera alittle I put a link up for the album at the end

    One the transmission.

Here's a novel way of sort your overheating problems

I spent hour or so taking the top off to look inside and use an industrial wet and dry hoover
to get the majority of the years of crap out!
I can comfirm it has got the recess for the jet drive unfortunately there is a big hole above the rear left tyre, made by the tyre because it's too big. Well easy repair because to tub is fibreglass. All the controls are seized and the chains that haven't snapped are useless. Anyway enough for now here the link to the albumHustler 880 pictures by testrun00 - Photobucket
    Cheers Charlie.
1, If it moves and it ain't suppose to use Duck tape.If it don't move and it's suppose to use WD40.

2, If it got tits or wheels it will cost you lots of money and grief.

I have run into machines like that. Lots of work but thats half the fun.
Best thing to do is take the top off. Remove the rubber body seal and drill the rivits out to remove the top. Then tip it on its side and grab a garden hose or better yet, high pressure power washer and clean it all up. Then go from there. If your luck all the axles will spin and your axle bearings are good or good enough to get you started. If there seized or binding you might as well tear the hole thing down and clean/paint and re assemble with new bearings.

Good luck on it and I look forward to seeing that machine moving!!! I love watching projects like that move along.

Cheers Larry, I was planning exactly that ,lol. I have read somewhere before, it may have well been you that said it.The pop rivets are already out and the top off waiting for pressure washer on sunday. Can't do it tomorrow eldest lad 7th birthday so taking kids to watch astro boy at cinema. All the wheels moving the tyres are no good, but I'm going to tear it down and start from the ground up that way it'll be the best Hustler in the U.K! even if it's the only one! My only concern is parts like bearings and transmission it'll cost a fortune in shipping from the States if I can't source parts here. I already got my eye on a briggs and stratton 16 hp V-twin on Ebay only 123 miles away from me, If the wife lets me have anymore pocket money. The hustler set me back 310 pounds which is about 485 dollars, and a private's wage ain't that good lol

        Hi Charlie
Nice Hustler project you got there. Bearings should be standard sizes and should be available at a AG or Industrial supply type place. Make friends with a welder/machinist and axles/ sprockets-tubes and such won't be tough either. Hopefully there is still ATF fluid in the tranny, as thats the biggie, but the T-20 was used in a bunch of machines so parts aren't rare, they're just not cheap. Good luck, and cool Wild Willie avatar BTW

Hi Testrun, Nice machine for 40 years old. I think it's in better shape than me. I like the upper body molded in seats. It's worth a complete resto. Take lots of pics for us. If you can get the 16 Briggs, it will move it but bigger is better, as long as it will fit. Good luck and congrats. Mike D

Hi guys, Looking for advice on engines. I did have chance to get a 16hp briggs and stratton, but was put off buying by some comments. Well this as just cropped on ebay uk starting at £400 and I got the dimensions to see if it'll fit. As usual I would like your input and advice http://www4.briggsandstratton.com/mi...nguard_2lc.pdf

Another quick question, What clutch would I need for this size engine??
              Again thanks in advance.

Congrats testrun00! I'm working on a complete restore with additions/modifications to an older fiberglass unit.Post lots of pic's,?'s and ideas. I originally started a thread called "Hustler 440" and will post all my happenings there. My lower tub has the recess for the pump. It also has 1 almost,1 is thru and 1 already "repaired" tire rub thru's. The upswing on that is (i'm no expert) i'm begining to realize that fiberglass is as easy to fix as it is to break(gonna guess it costs less to fix then to break when you add up all the costs of the senario's) Joe.

Hi guys not been on for a while been busy with work although you can't see my clearly I'm second row in the middle from the back, lol. Well managed to tear down the Hustler completely I was hoping to do it by 9pm last night ended up finishing at 2 am this morning. Wow rust is the best super glue in the world, thoughs axles were a nightmare to get out along with trying to remove make shift repair wrong bolt rammed in,lol. I had to drill out one of the drive sprockets and grind out the nut heads off the outer bearing flanges to get the axles out. Oh well at least it's total stripped now and it looks like I'll be ordering some metal and doing some welding some of the frame has rusted through. At least I'll be able to use the old metal as a template. On another note MORE BAD NEWS!! I drain the transmission ,and guess what? That's right black dirty gear oil came out. Fingers cross when I open it up theres not too much damage. Got more pics to put up laters this week up then. Charlie

Id be happy with the black gear oil and not water. just take care with the t-20 plungers. Pull them out when you have the trans in half and the drums out. dont push the rusty plungers into the case as they will score the bores.
