  • I need to get my head checked

well, it happened again, found a deal too good to pass, and we have now added a Hustler 950 to the family. it was listed for $500 and i managed to pick it up for $250!

it is ugly as can be and should haul tons of stuff... it shall henceforth be known as "The Family Truckster" hopefully the camo spray paint will pressure wash off fairly easily.
it is missing the gas tank, rear floor pan and will need a few parts for the parking brake, but is otherwise complete. judging by how much plunger travel the T-20 has, i'm thinking it will need new bands soon.
hopefully once my Ashtabula preparations are done tomorrow i will have some time left to tinker with it. i have a 3 gallon lawn mower gas tank that should fit ok in the stock location. i'll just have to build mounts for it. i think with 3-4 hours work i should be able to have it up and running.

That looks like a great machine Race at the price.....a steal! Look forward to seeing it rock and roll.
Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways , cigar in one hand, whiskey in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO-HOO, what a ride!!!"

Great deal, Brian! You def can't turn that down for only $250! Hustlers are great machines, and you're going to love it for sure. What engine is in this one? I'm guessing either Kohler K341 or a Briggs flat twin.

I happen to think both of your heads are just fine! How could you possibly turn it down? Even the tires look decent... Great find 'Race family!

tires are junk! the rear 4 will hold air long enough to push it off the trailer. the front 2 have tubes and the valve stem holes in the wheels are rusted out to about an inch diameter. i just picked up a set of Runamucks from Lewis's house that will get it rolling. the only 5 lug wheels i have laying around are off a sierra trail boss and are about 6" wide so i need to come up with 2 more 8" 5 luggers. i also scored a trail boss gas tank from Lewis, which will fit marginally better than the mower tank that i had planned to use.
machine has the 18hp flat twin briggs, so i'm thinking it was one of the last years made. i haven't even hunted for numbers on it yet to figure out the year.
pressure washer didn't touch the spray paint so i'll have to try something more aggressive. body is solid... one crack or cut in the rear that should be a fairly easy fix. missing one chain adjuster, but i'll end up fabbing up my own anyway. hopefully i'll be able to take a test drive before we head to Ashtabula!

Maybe try acetone on the body.... it takes paint/grease off well, and if it's poly (I think it is?) it won't phase the plastic. I've gone through 3/4 of a gallon this past month on the ABS machines, just trying to make them look kinda shiny again. The fumes sure get to me, though....

                    weeeeee!!!!!
