Hustler is a very well-made machine and the bodies are as good as any. The only draw-back I can think of would be NOS parts availabilty. Most of the parts you can get off the shelf, find on the web, or make yourself, so it's not all that big a deal. The HDPE Hustler (in my opinion) is a sturdy, reliable machine. All of them were four-seaters as far as I know. What model are you looking at?Stuck in the seventies- not in the swamp.

I just picked one up last week and i'm starting to dive into it. the few negatives i can see right off the bat are the chain adjusters... poor design and hard to get to in some cases. if you are a decent fabricator it should be easy to make something better.
the hump that sticks down from the lower tub to make room for the center sprockets/ brake rotors will get hung up/ high centered more easily than other designs.
leg room. i'm 6'6" so the front seating of the hustler isn't great for me.
all that being said, i drove Jerseybigfoot's hustler at busco beach a few years back for a day and a half. i never needed to be winched, and didn't die from the cramps in my legs
some pros:
T-20 trans. nuff said
larger diameter axles than a lot of the other older machines, so in theory you can drive it like a rental and bend less axles than I do in my Attex
seating for 4 (midgets)A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

R13's right about the drawbacks, but I must qualify as one of the "midgets".I don't have a real problem with leg room with two in the front or alone in the back. It can get a little cramped with two people in the back, however. I'm in the process of changing the chain adjusters on mine from nylon rollers to idler sprockets, but I like the set-up other than the rollers. If you strengthen up the channels the adjusters ride in, they're easy to use and work well.
I've only gotten hung up on the hump in the bottom of the body once that I can remember and it pulled right back out of it, but I can see where it may be a problem sometimes.
The V-twin must be a transplant, but the machine sounds like a 900 or 950 era.
Good luck.Stuck in the seventies- not in the swamp.

Don, I noticed that i had a lot more leg room in your bigfoot than in Jerseys standard hustler. i'm not sure how much difference there is in tub depth, but it was enough to be much more comfortable.A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.
