  • measurements needed

I've started diving into my hustler project and found that it is missing a few things. i think the parts i'm needing will be easy to make, but i need some dimensions to work with. if someone has a hustler and could get me some dimensions it would go a long way toward getting this thing back up and running. (pics on the rear floorboard would be helpful too)
    parts i need to make

headlight covers. i have clear lexan so these are just a matter of cutting to size.

bar that the rear seat/ engine cover mounts to. i've been told that this is just a 1"x1" square tube. i need to know the overall width and center to center measurement of the mounting bolts. (is this just held on with a bolt and nut or do i need to weld a mounting tab to it?)

rear floorboard. i know this isn't a simple square piece, so pics with a tape measure laid on the part would be helpful.
    thanks in advance!

Sorry I dont have a hustler to help you. I bet if someone could do a video while they measure the parts you could get a better look at how the parts are attached and sit in the machine. Good luck!

Ok, since I've got mime apart.......

Seat Cross Bar: 1"x1" square tube, 36" long, welded to a 2" x 5 1/2" pad, (on the right side.) On the left side there is a 2" piece of 1"x1" welded to the pad, then the cross bar is welded to that. ( to level the bar(one side of the body has a bump and is higher) then just bolted thru the body. The bar has to line up with the center molded bump between the molded groves in the rear seat.

The rear floor is not so easy to describe.
start with a 30 1/2" x 23" piece of light steel (1/16"). cut off 2 of the corners at 45 angle (2" x2")(along the 23" side). Bend up a 2" lip to 90 degrees. This fits against the battery box. and is now called the front. come back about 14" from the front and roll up the next 12 1/2 to 13" to form to the anchor bracket. The top 2" angle back under the seat lip. There is only one bolt that holds mine in, and that's centered on the rolled section, and the bar running between the two idle sprokets is tapped. Oh ya, there is a notch cut on the rear left side, 1 1/4" x 8" to clear the fwd/n/rev shift lever.

Now I'l try to attach pictures.

Doo-Daa beat me to it! I got the same measurements, and the headlight covers are 7 1/2" X 9".

Sorry Don, I figured that with me getting stressed on learning how to download pics, that Racerone could take one for the team and figure that one out.

But if you can better my description on the rear floor pan, please feel free to.

great Thank you. your description/ pics of the rear floor will work great. i think i have a piece of 1/4" black poly that will work great for the rear floor.
only thing i was off on was the rear seat bar. i need the measurements for the top one where the engine cover hinge is attached. looks like something was attached to the upper body for the engine cover to attach to, but i'm not sure what it was

a little more time to work on the Hustler today while waiting on parts for the T-20. all the bearings, sprockets and chains seem to be in good shape, but there is a ton of slop where the bolts go through the sprocket tubes. i plan to go to a 3/8 bolt with a thick washer welded to the tubes like i've had to do in some of my attex's. i went to pull one out to make sure the 3/8 bolt will fit (very tight to the sprocket tube) and noticed that the ecentric collars on the inner bearings were on the inside of the machine... this is something i've never found before and was wondering if it's normal for a hustler, or did someone change bearings and put them back in wrong?
i could still use a pic/ description/ measurements on how the engine cover is supposed to be attached to the upper body.
              thanks guys

Brian, I was actually working on my Hustler up at my parent's house this weekend and getting the measurements totally slipped my mind. I'll be up there this weekend and if nobody posts the info by then, I'll be sure to do it.

Bearing collars are on the inside.

is that just how they were done, or is there a reason it has to be done that way? on one hand, it seems like they might be a little less prone to rusting on the inside, but on the other hand, they a re a lot easier to lock/ unlock with them on the outside of the body.

I think it has more to do with aligning the grease fitting to the grease hole in the brg.

                        Thanks JBF
now a question on inner bearings. i was just going to do the smart thing and lift the part #'s off all my old bearings so i can place an order for the new ones, however i found 3 different inner bearings in the machine. long set screw collar, 2 different short set screw collar type, and ecentric collar like the outers on my attex. any thoughts on what it "should" have for inner bearings???

My 900 has 47mm OD eccentric lock bearings. One I saved is Fafnir RAL014NPPB. Unforunately I ordered HC206-16 which are 52mm.
Guess it depends on year and model.

Scratch that fafnir number, I'm told that would be 7/8" ID, I have RAL100PPBB coming. We'll see.
