Battery location

The previous owner had moved the battery to the right rear. The pan used at this location has rusted badly and needs to be replaced. I have two questions:
1. Is there reason I do not want to use the original location under the front seat?
2. The battery hold down strap/hook is missing for the front location. Anyone know where can I obtain a replacement?

The location does not really matter as long as you have one. I will use the original factory mounting point. As for a battery hold down, you can easily fabricate it. Mine is just 2 pieces of 1/4" all-thread about 8" long with a washer and lock nuts mounting it to the battery tray (I used holes that where already drilled out). And bend a piece of scrap aluminum with my shop press to fit the top of the battery and drilled 2 holes and slide it on top the battery and tighten down with washers and lock nuts.

I'm curious to see what others think. I believe the closer to the front the better. Seems that in the water my machine does best with a little nose down orientation. With just me in the hustler, I really have to lean forward for best swimming and that's with the weight of the battery under the front seat.

Ive a 84 950 hustler. Im mounting my battery in the tubs back right upper corner. I managed to make a battery frame with a welded in stud that mounts through one of the bumper holes. The upper body and lid fits over this perfectly. I relocated my battery and all the electrical to the back because I didnt like it being in such close proximity to the fuel tank. I also needed the space the shifter, emergency brake lever and the battery shared as a lower clearance for the bucket seat I installed.
