  • hustler 950 steering levers

I noticed that a few have converted their steering levers so that they pivot on the same bar. Whats the advantage of doing this compared to the two bar original set-up?

Probably the biggest advantage to going to a single pivot is shortening up the (REALLY FLIMSY) tabs that the laterals mount to. On both of the machines I've done, I've added large gussets to support the tabs better, and moved the laterals to the center of the machine. both methods work fine... the single pivot requires more rummaging in the scrap bin to find tubing that will fit one inside the other... beefing up the stock pivots just requires a 2"X2" piece of flat steel, cut into 2 triangles and welded in place as gussets. On one of the machines I did, the laterals were in good shape, so I just cut them off and rewelded them 4 inches to the right. On my bigfoot, the laterals were mangled, so I built new ones. Centering the laterals also forces you to either cut a gaping hole in the floor, or build a new floor board, but it makes the machine way more comfortable to drive!

I removed the original floor board and added a shortened one. This allows me to place my feet against the angle of the tub. More comfortable having your feet at a 45, then flat footed.

My steering levers were in pretty good shape so I threaded the ends and made new mounts from angle iron. I have a tendency to overbuild stuff...
