  • skidoo 583 R.A.V.E. MOTOR ON HUSTLER 900

so a friend of mine just gave me a 96 liquid cooled 583 skidoo motor with the rave valves on it. motor only has about 1600 miles on and runs real good. He wrecked the sled last weekend up north. So I'm thinking if I dont sell my hustler about loosing the old 440 kohler and dropping in the 583. motor mounts measure the same I would have to completely mod the exhaust and hook some kinda rad up for the cooling with prob an electric fan. I think this motor is around 85-95 horse power will the machine hold up to it? what do you guys think ? please let me know

Yikes! That is a lot of power! I know I'd kill myself on that, but would be smiling while I did it!

Personally, I think that kind of power would tear the machine up.

The T-20 will handle it no problem. The part that I'd be worried about is the bolts snapping that go through the axles and sprocket tubes. Throw some splined axles on it, build a cage, and you've got a fire breathing Hustler. The downside to this is that your Hustler is not really that well suited for trail riding, but if it were to be raced, it would fly.

yeah it probably would completely destroy it! but I must agree with you about the smiling!

Im sure it would fly but I can only imagine the price of doing all the axles bearings and sprockets over again. maybe its not a great idea

If it isn't broke, don't fix it. That Kohler 440 is a good motor.....stick with that and you'll be happy and have fewer headaches.

Seeing all of the cracks my frame had I feel certain the frame couldn't handle that kind of power. It would be bad a$$ for the short time you ran it though.
