  • Just a few questions??????????

I am new to this so bear with me. I have what I believe to be a 950 , it has 8" rims, 21x11x8. What are the differences of the 980 to a 950???? What are the biggest tire and wheels you think I could run, with out axle extentions????? The more I learn the better!!!

Hey Russh, thanks for joining up with us. The difference between the 980 and 950 Hustler is the deeper tub, the side exit exhaust on the Hustler, lower gearing and of course the 26x12x12 tires.
You can run up to 25" tires on a 950 Hustler. 6x6world member Jerseybigfoot put 25" Goodyear Rawhide III tires on his without any wheel extenders. You might want to send him a message and maybe he can provide you with some pictures. Do you have some pictures of your rig? The Hustler is a very nice and rugged vehicle.

Just a couple questions that I have not found the answer to yet. Does anyone know what the proper belt is for the Hustler with the 18HP B&S engine? Also my machine turn great in one direction but poorly in the other. Any ideas on what I should look for first to fix this?
The little bit we have been able to run this has been great.
      Thanks

For turning make sure that the transmission is full in gear on both sides. Make sure you are pushing forward on the side you want to push you forward.

I had one that ould not turn to the left very well. I checked the drivetrain and saw the center wheel was not turning. I lifted the back seat and saw the bolts that go through the sprocket and axle were missing.

          Hey Bushed,

In addition to what Jerry said, make sure that your T-20 bands are adjusted properly, if you need a Hustler manual, there is one in the literature section on this site.

As far as the proper belt, as far as I know there is no way to tell without measuring. Get a cloth measuring tape and measure outside the edge of both clutches, this should get you in the ballpark. You can then get on Dayco's website and match that up with a HP series belt. The belt should be fairly tight, with about 1" deflection...there may be a little trial and error until you find the best belt.
          Hammers should have warning labels.
