Hello Everyone , I just purchased my first running 6x6 . I had bought 3 attex's a year or 2 ago but they needed just way to much work for me to do being that I am disabled (dish disease). I was hurt to let them go because I really wanted to do the project but my body wouldn't allow me to. So anyways this is my first running 6x6. It is a Max II Guessing from the 1980's but this thing is mint. Sat for 20 years in a garage so its in really good shape. I checked everything out on this before I purchased it for $1700. I could not find anything wrong with it. Only thing that I can't figure out is that sometimes it's real sluggish , like I stop to cross the road and it has real slow takeoff. once it gets going i think its around 10-12 mph . The guy I purchased it from said it had a 4 stroke tecumseh. I am trying to figure out how much hp it has .also seems like it revs to high , sometimes i have to wait a few seconds for idle to come down to shift it into gear. it also seems like the motor isn't going to its full rpm potential . my buddy said that it is probably the governor and to take it off , but I read somewhere else you want to have it on , I am so confused. I was wondering if I ended up puting a bigger 4 stroke in it , What would be my best option as in $ to go with . I don't have alot of money so would have to go with a less expensive engine as I could . If I bought one I just want to make sure I get the right one/kind for it and was also wondering what all would have to be done . I know alot of you on here have upgraded yours so I figured I would seek advice . I was looking at used engines also but not sure on which way to go. I might end up just keeping the original engine if I can get it right also I don't know , Just looking for opinions . Any info I could get I would really appreciate it . Also was wondering if this was a decent deal that I got. No leaks on water , frame chain are in great shape . everything is really .max2.jpgmax4.jpgmax1.jpgmax3.jpg

woot mine did the same thing. My belt was loose and it wasn't shifting into high, Jay at RI told me to tighten the belt . Slide the motor to the rear of the max. If the Max moves while idle its to tight you want almost trying to move. hopes this help. Mine is working fine now 14hp briggs.

You got a great deal on that Max. It looks SUPER clean in the pics. It's probably a mid to late 1980's model. Call up Recreatives with your serial number and they'll tell you all the details on it. I am in michigan like you buggyman but in the Upper Peninsula in a town called champion , about 35 miles west of marquette. There are a few 6x6 owners up here but not many . I have never seen anyone drive one up here but myself. But I see them for sale on Craiglist. I didn't get a chance to work on it today like I wanted to , tomorrow I have to register the truck I brought back from minnesota and put brakes on front and rear. Hoping tuesday I will have some time. Had a few minutes today to take the wife for a ride. She loves the thing , which is crazy she don't like anything usually. So now im sure she will let me drop some $ in it when I have it to spare. Gonna clean the carb and check belt and see what happens. Again thanks for the info will update on tuesday .
