  • New owner to be......need help

Ok guys I am completely new to these machines but recently fell in love. Found a crazy deal I think so I jumped on it. Tomorrow I will be picking up an 80s model maxII. It's gonna need some work but wait till you hear the price. I know the trans has been pulled out but I am getting a nib rebuild kit for the t20 so my first question is where can I go to look on step by step how to do that? Lol I will need atleast 2 wheels tires for it and probably motor tune up. And maybe chains/belts. For a mild upgrade on motor without selling a nut what's a good upgrade idea? May just keep it the same(17hp something). But also what do I need to be looking for when I first get it so I can get her back to where she needs to be. By the way it's basically a complete unit that needs trans rebuilt and some odds and ends, but I'm giving 100$ bill for it all!!!! I'm so excited!!!
    Thanks for all input

First thing I'd do is kiss the seller on the lips Nice score! As for the rest, I have no useful info... just jealousy lol

Lol I could believe it. He had it priced at 250 and I shot him a text and asked his bottom dollar(I was going to pay 250) but he said 100$ lowest he take. I told him I was about to leave lol but he needed to wait till tomorrow because of work

        Here you go.... http://www.6x6world.com/forums/conte...build-how.html

So, what engine is *in* it now, that you know you want an upgrade? A 14/16/18 hp Briggs Vanguard has plenty of get up and go to take a Max II places you shouldn't be.

Aside from the usual visual cues, get the whole machine up in the air so that you can jostle, spin, and shake all of the axles and inspect for wear in the bearings, axles, sprockets and chains. This is the easiest and fastest way to assess any problems and to drain your bank account. Even though you basically own it, the used ATV buyers guide is a great walk through after the fact.

Hey guys. brought her home last night. body and tub seem to be in phenomenal shape(but of course dirty). plan to get it in the air tonight(working a double today) and starting shaking and twisting on everything. Trans may need some more than i was hoping(it is in pieces) but not sure. Motor is a jl rockwell. i know for sure going to need atleast 1 wheel and some tires. any suggesions on where? also is the rockwell worth messing with or should i just plan on another motor?i can get a 500 for about another 200 or possibly less. What do i need to be looking for on the axles and bearings etc etc. Sorry for all the noob questions but no other way to learn i guess......hopefully these pics work

Here's a link to assembly videos that might help......and yes, it is easy to be missing small parts if its been apart and moved.

The big money is in the drums (4 of them). If they get scored by the bands, or rusted, they are bad. They MUST be smooth and highly polished or they will eat the lining right off the bands.

Posting in the wanted section is probably the best place to find drum(s). Expect to pay about $100 each for good used ones. new are almost 3 times that. If you need all 4 of them, you are better off looking for another trans.

Good news guys. Was out feeding dog and while he was running I thought I'd try to break some of the nuts and everyone I tried was super easy. Tomorrow starts 1st big day with it. Working a deal on another t20 so we will see what happens. I'd like to post some pics as I go should I keep this thread going or start a new one
