  • Unidentified vehicle! Please Help me figure out what this is!! MAX II?? Year??

Hello everyone and thanks for looking!

I'm making a thread tonight because I have come accross something I know nothing about: Max II?? 6x6 amphibious buggy. I rode one of these things years ago but don't know a thing about them. This one showed up on a sale bill, but didn't sell at auction because the guy couldn't get it started to bring because it lost fire.
Could anyone help me out buy giving me the generals like year? Make? model?

What its worth not running? $350 is the pending price is that good or bad?

Owner claims it ran fine and worked fine till it lost fire, he has replace three wheel bearings and has the missing parts not pictured.

I don't like the two strok in it and really want a 4 stroke in there. Any suggestions on how hard it is to swap a 2 stroke for 4 or what parts are needed??
    Any comments would be appreciated!!

It looks to be a Max IV or possibly a RIM. Correct me if I am wrong 6x6 family.

That's an older max IV. Its a 2stroker, not really ideal for the trails, but $350 is a steal on it. Put a new Briggs vanguard in it and get a new drive clutch replace the spring on the driven and you got one neck of a machine for under $2000 if you go with all new stuff. If you find a good deal on a used engine you could be in it for less than a grand.
l like to buy stuff and no I don't do payments!

Thanks Cbassand amphibious drew! I had seen a few and determine its a max but didn't know which model. What year do you think it would be? 1980's? As I said before I don't know anything bout these things. Is there anything I should check before buying it? Like chains, drive sprokets, wheel bearings, transmission, etc?? what do you thinkt he machine is worth one a vtwin 4 stroke is put transplanted into it?

If it has a serial number you an locate, you can call RI an they can tell you the year it was made and some other good stuff too. I would think it is maybe a mid 80's. As for price, it really varies on your location. I would think $2500 would sell it quick with a briggs or kohler 4 stroke in it and you could possibly get more like $3500+ if you were not in a hurry to sell but thats just a guess. If you put a chinese engine in it you will be lucky to see $2000. There is a buyers guide on the home page. Use the checklist and you should be good.

This is indeed a 1980's Max IV with a factory Kawasaki TA440A engine. This engine was used in the Max IV and Max II. For $350 you better go buy it ASAP! As Drew said, call Recreatives with the serial number and they'll be able to tell you the details about the machine. Thanks again amphibious drew and jpswift1 for all the info! I will make sure and call Recreatives with the serial number to figure out the exact year. I have gone over the buyers guide checklist and plan to take that list with me when I go to pick it up. I'm crossing my fingers the guy calls tomorrow and says come get it now that I know its a good deal! If I get it bought look forward to some pics of that 2 stroker to vanguard engine swap!

Did you disconnect the engine wire harness and check for spark?
I would try and get the engine running before you replace it.
                Great find.
