  • Control Sticks Sloppy

The control sticks are sloppy. Has anyone devised a good mod to take the slop out?

You have to be a little more specific. The rods that go from sticks to the trans can be replaced with ones that have heim joints to tighten them. If you have a "U" channel type t-20 you can install pivots for the "U" channels....
What is the slop that you want to eliminate?

The first point of sloppiness is where the control sticks meet/interact with the frame. That sloppy connection allows the sticks to wobble side-to-side and back-and-forth. How has this been addressed by the members? Also, I have heard about the Heim joint fix for the sticks-to-control rod joint, but I've never seen photos of the fix/mod.

Some guys (Whipper and Jim) have inserted pins at off-set angles into the T-20 case and mounted the U-channels to those pins. That's where you get the most slop in the newer T-20s. The Heim joints also take out quite a bit of slop in both new and old style T-20s but not nearly as much as putting those pins in. I'm pretty sure there is a thread and photo/video post on the site better than the one I found.

That is the only junction in the circuit that I did not address on Gizmo. That is really the only slop left, lol. The tubes that pivot on the horizontal shaft in the frame just need to be bushed.I was in a hurry to wrap er up and opted to wait to do this upgrade.I don't remember exactly what all is involved but it wasn't too scary a project.If/when I do it I will post pics of the operation.

            These here.

Has anyone else bushed the pivot point on the horizontal shaft?

I have a Hustler, not a max, but my idea should work just the same. I drilled out the pipes to 3/8" and inserted all thread for them to ride on. I also drilled and tapped in a grease zerg on each. Just a few squirts of marine grade grease and it firms up pretty good and keeps water and rust out.
