hy guys i am new here to the forum but not new to atv`s just 6x6`s well where do i start , i just bought my first max although it has minior issues that i am figureing out i talked to the previous owner and foud out that he changed it with penzoil sae 30 WOWZERS , i dont know how long this oil has been in there i figure a couple of years unknown hrs soo my question is that how do i clean up this trans with out removing it also the ser number is 7076 when i do change it and i put in dex 3 with modifier how much modifier in please help the trans appears to work fine but this is my first 6x6 thanks , yote

sportster drowning 002.jpgThat's not going to be a big problem, just get it out.
Remove the bottom and top plugs from the t-20 and incline your machine like this (a winch helps). The oil will run out the tub drain holes. After draining, lower the machine to the floor and fill with ATF till it runs out the BOTTOM plug.
Then drive your machine for a half hour and change the fluid again.
The additive isn't needed, it just helps with band chatter. I like to use synthetic ATF instead, while others like the additive......I don't think there is a bad choice.
The key is really to change the fluid more often. The factory recommends every 50 hours, and I doubt Joe Average ever changes it.
