  • Chains not lining up

Early max two finally starting to get everything back in. Got all axles in.
1st question which middle sprocket does front chain match with? Rear chain? And the rear chain isn't matching up with middle sprocket or chain tensioner. Where is best place and way to adjust so they do?

ok for starters early max II's had different axles for the front and rear, your rear sprocket should be almost against your outside frame rail. Your front chain lines up with the center sprocket closest to the inner frame rail and jackshaft should be the center sprocket that is a 60 chain .also never lock your axles in place until all chains are in and aligned you will have to adjust them in or out hope this helps

When I did my bearings I measured how much axle protruded from,in my case the outer bearing cage and reinstalled the same. One of the triple sprocket comes from the jackshaft running off the transmission and it is a larger chain than the front and rear. Guessing from here I would say the middle sprocket comes from the jackshaft, guess only. You should be able to find pictures in Mike's bearing change article that shows which chain goes where. You also need to have the sprockets on the axles in their original places. On my solid axles there were two seats for the allen set screw about 1 inch apart, don't know why but I had to make sure the sprockets were back in the original seat. Hollow axles I would think would only have one bolt hole for the sprocket. When you relock the axles in place there is every chance of doing it out of alignment. I'm going out on a limb here without looking but I will guess middle sprocket to jackshaft, inner to front and outer to rear.

pics were nice but if i would have used a little common sense and looked down the aatv i would have seen why......everything mtches up perfect but when i get to the passenger side the set of sprockets that slide on the middle axle appear to be offset to the center of aatv too much?? both front and rear sprockets and chain adjusters mtch up great but that center set is throwing everything off. To be perfectly honest most of the chains were jjust laying in the bottom tub when i got the machine. So cant really say "well it worked before i took it apart" Any ideas of fixes? If i drill new hole will that weaken it too much?

Your axle determines where the sprocket sits. If your sprocket is too far in towards the machine center, Loosen the lock ring on the outer bearing and reposition your axle.
