I wanna cry , waiting for better weather to get max4

I have a max4 waiting for me but its 230 miles one way , and about 100 of it going to be slow and snow . I have my weekend off and i am just sitting around the house burning up my weekend with a trailer hooked up to the ford powerstoke 4x4 . But i hate driving on snow and ice and have pulled a trailer on snow before and that was no fun . Even with the weight spread evenly it will want to sway side to side unless i keep it under 35 mph on snow . I still have about 2 days left to reconsider a slow drive , but again i hate to go through mountian passes with the thought of black ice on the highway. Not to mention its about 20 degrees right now in some of those places i have to pass through . Sooo close but still far away , i just wanna cry . lol

Better safe than sorry. You don't want risk wrecking your truck, trailer, and Max or you. Where do you have to go to pick it up? Somewhere in the mid west I'm guessing. I know you're extremely anxious to get it home and start playing with it. The Max AATVs are an absolute blast to drive. There's about a dozen of us going on a ride tomorrow and I'm already excited. Why use the trailer? Not sure about the 4; but I've got two Max II's, and I just drive them right up into the back of the truck. Works great! the wheelwell sticks out enough so that the machine's kind of locked in between the 1st and 2nd set of tires. Still have room up front so it's not up against the front of the bed. The tailgate won't close, but there's also no weight on it either. You just need a set of ramps or to be able to back up into a ditch or against a bank. And it'll handle a WHOLE lot better than having the trailer behind, as you've got some weight on your rear axle. Check your measurements; but I bet it'll work. I just did the same thing to get one about 10 hours though it was a max II. I didn't want to drag the trailer behind the Tahoe so I just rented a crew cab from enterprise(not 8 ft bed) and threw a couple of pallets in the back to raise it above the wheel wells. We then backed up to a hill, used a sheet of plywood for the ramp and pushed it up. The truck actually rode better with the weight in the back.

three good replies. better safe than sorry. when you do decide to go,a max four goes into a ford pickup, 8 ft box on top of one pallett. brandon price posted pictures yearsv ago.

I've heard of sometimes taking off the middle wheels too as it lets the machine straddle the wheel wells. The total width without wheel extenders should be about 56 inches.

max hole.jpgmax hole2.jpgYa my truck is a short bed Ford , ya I heard how the maxs will fit in the back of trucks and stick out the tail gate . But my trailer is perfect for picking it up , its a landscape trailer with a fold down tail gate for mowers and such . It weighs 1200 lbs so not much of a load for my truck to pull . It has 36 inch sides all the way around with places to tie off so getting the max will be nice and safe since it has no where to go. I just want to get it , load it and turn around and come home . If it will fit in the back of my truck I might deal with that later when i take it up into the mountains , just too many unknowns right now on how it would fit into my truck .

Thanks for the saftey tip about staying home , I have been watching the the Gov cameras that are on the passes and they dont look like something i want to tackle . If i had to i would go but only if nessary . When the snow melts and get down to 32 degrees thats when it get dangerous . So i did elect to stay home anyhow .

The max how ever is going to need some attention , Its a Max 4 . It has a tranny problem and also a hole in the tub under the center wheel . The guy says it will drive forward but will not turn to the left or the right. So they just push it around the direction they want to go , the reason why he most likey selling it . I just want to get it here and start exploring why its not working . When i get it home and get to see the t20 tranny then i will have an understanding of what all the troube shooting is all about . I read the post about tranny problems and look at a few pics , but i need one in my hands to understand . I cant sew worth beans but i can work on equipment pretty good. lol If it doesnt move like that guy says it wont, it could be anywhere from the linkages, to the fliud, to worn shift pins to worn bands or worn out drums . See guys i have been doing a little bit of study arlready and havent even see it .

The body seems pretty stright forward to reapair . just melt the same kinda plastics together at the same tempeture and wala . At least i think wala .

I can only think of a few things of why a wheel would rub on the body to cause a hole. We are talking about the center wheel here guys. Bent axel shaft or the guy ran it with a bearing out for a while or oversized tires . This looks to have the 26inch tires and never any tracks Any other reasons why the center wheel would rub a hole in the (Top) of the tub ? Thanls guys

The wheel rub on the body to cause a hole. It is sometimes so, that a wheel is working well, when it is cold. When you drive, the wheel will start to be warmer and bigger. I often see that on cars and Motorcycles. They bold on the cold tires and then the folks go to drive. After a while the Wheel is warm and rub on the body. Just my two cents.

I've seen a couple of fast 2 stroke Attexes with over inflated balloon tires rub holes in the lower tub. The tires get warm, and they expand when going fast.......mix that in with a soft rubber compound and then a hole rubs in the tub.

Well after 20 emails and waiting for manageable weather for the last 2 weeks I finally nailed down a time i would be at this guys place to pay and pick up the max4 he was going to sell. He informs/emails today me that he doesn't have tittle in his possession that it at his other house hundreds miles away . Saying he just remembered that he left there but all the while trying to sell me the max for the last 3 weeks. How could you forget something like that when u advertize on ebay and show that u have title on ebay just to say when it comes down to make the sale you forgot it somewhere else . As i grow older i have a low for tolerance Bull S, Cat S Dog S, Bird S , lizard s, and any other kinda S . This guy is a flake and i will post his add for all to see it and be aware not to mess with it .

Dependant upon what state you live in you may not need a title as roughly half the states in the U.S. don't require titles for atvs, especially older machines. Many purchases even in the states that require a title will work with a bill of sale or special power of attorney to transfer title.
I work in the insurance industry, and even automobile transfers will work off either of those, just make sure the POA is specific to the state you live in. I recommend that you speak with your county clerk's office before you rule out a machine you have always wanted.

I looked at the EBay ad and if it sold for their asking price I don't think you lost out on a great deal. It looked like it had fairly rough usage and in that price range there are nicer ones. Keep looking and you'll find a good machine. I started looking for only an Argo and found a Max II and I have no regrets. I have learned over time to never shed tears over the "one that got away" as it may not have been the one for me. That one was a one owner by a guy that either didn't or couldn't maintain it. You want one that has had meticulous maintenance.

I was dealing with this guy while the listing was active since it was 4 hrs away from me one way . His Max had problems with the tranny . It wouldnt turn to the left or right. It would just go straight . With what it was going on with it he was going to sell it to me for 2000.00. A few more discoveries later and found a hole in the tub and another tranny problem the price went from 2000.00 to 1700.00 down to 1500.00 . So it was an affordable way for me to get into a max , so i thought . Yes this thing looks like it was beat . Just seeing the rear rims on both sides of the bead flanges are bent up and that tells a story right there. And of course the tranny that wouldnt turn to the left or right . So a person to let it get that far didnt take care of it and i would believe the drums are scorched . I was hopeing to rebuild the tranny for about 600 bucks and have a running machine but then again if you buy a turd and put 1000.00 into it then I would have a 2500.00 turd that has a body that worn through , cracked front nose, maybe a bent axel , and for 2800.00 a guy can find in max 4 in really great shape thats hasnt been beat on and needs very liitle work and can drive it away . I think this guy is trying to hold out for more money . I also think this guy wants to sell his broken up max4 for the price of a decent running one to some unaware buyer . Bent rims, brashed body, non functional tranny ,hole in tub tell the story this guy was hard on it and thats what i could see from 200 miles away , no telling what i would have found when i got to see it in person . Another one for 1500 more with a winch and stright body and no holes in tub runs with no tranny problems would be worth it. I just thought i would be able to get a new toy for about 2/3s the cost .
