  • Chain Size for 1980 BigMax2

    Hallo
I clean my chains and cook it in boiled oil. Now they seems like new. My Problem is that the chainlocks going lost. The bigger Chains have the Code 60. The chains from wheel to wheel have no code on it. Does anybody now the type of ths chains? My BigMax is build 1980. With this i can order the CainLocks. ChainLock ist correct for the pease how put the two ends of a chain together?
    kind regards

Hi. I believe a 1980 max would have a size #50 Master Link (what you call chain lock). I think they went from size #40 chain to #50 chain sometime in the 70's, but I am not sure....

Budzinsk, I believe you're correct on this. I've got 4 Max II's; one is a '88 with 50 chain for the axle drives. The other 3 are older machines (no S/N's) but they've all got hollow axles, and 2 of them have 3 lug wheels. (And they're all running # 40 chain for the axles.)

Bavaria, when you order these links, make sure you order #50. There is a #520 link out there. You DON"T want those! It's a longer link; basically a double length link. Hope this helps. Good luck on your project.

the first digit in the chain's designation is the length of one link in eights of an inch. So #50 (first digit being 5) is 5/8" between pins. #40 would be 4/8 or 1/2..... measure the distance between 2 pins before you order to be sure
