I added a 70amp denso alternator to my last Max IV and Getting ready to put alternators on my 2005 Max IV and 2008 Max Buffalo. Really worked great keeping the battery charged when running lights at night and winch use.

I don't want to hijack this thread, but could you post the details of the alternator install? Maybe on a new thread?

I bought this machine from AKRanger. The alternator install is really straight forward. Its a 70 amp denso single wire alternator. AKRanger will have to say where he got the accessory pulley for the Vanguard as I can't find it. There is an angle iron bracket made for the pivot point of the alternator mounted to the engine mount stand. An old tie rod is used for the adjustment of tension on alternator v-belt bolted to the frame just infront of the battery. One power wire going to the positive side of the battery and thats it.
1995 Max IV , (#11582), 23 HP Vanguard, Custom aluminum bellyband/roll-bars with direct winch attachment. Recreatives track kit.
Work in progress. Front windshield and canvas enclosure for winter use.

The fan side drive for the alternator is a B&S stub shaft kit. its in the Vanguard acessories catalog page 44.

Kohler also has stub shafts for their Kohler command engines. I bought the pulley from NAPA here in AK, just a standard pulley to fit a 1" Stub shaft diameter and about double the size of the pulley that came on the denso alternator so proper RPM could be obtained at idle.

With all the motorized machines out on the lake to tie up to, a decent rope should be a big plus.
Some people use the small folding grappling hooks/anchors that West Marine sells.

Or you can get a length of re-rod at Home Depot, cut it into 12-15" lengths, weld a chain link in the center to tie a rope to for your spudded hole retrieval fix.
I use this method to hold my shanty in place on VERY windy days, except I use small tree branches about 12" long and twine, which I usually cut at the end of the day.

I don't know about you, but when I go ice fishing I usually take my 4'x6' pop-up Frabill shanty, my 6" Strikemaster Lazer Mora auger, half a dozen of my Ultra lite rods and reels, Minnows, Spikes, Waxies, Wigglers and Mousses, Coleman propane Catalytic heater/stove, 5 gallon buckets to sit on (and hopefully to put fish in), tackle box, 100ft+ of Poly rope(it floats), extra gloves, extra boots, safety Ice piks, and that's not all of it.
                      Plus whatever my buddy brings!
                      .
                      Sooooooooo......
                      .
Go over to Harbor Freight and pick up one of their small trailers and tow it behind the Max. I bought the 35"x55" trailer(#02948) that has the optional galvanized sides for 190$ and can haul all my S*^%* in it. Plus I use the H#$% out of it in the yard up north.

Lordy, you guys sure go to a lot of trouble to fish!
