  • tire adivce on MaxIV

I have a MaxIV with 21x11x8 tires, they seem kinda small on the machine with only about 4" of clearance. can anyone tell me what is the biggest size tire I can put on my Max? Thanks for the input

Those 21's may have been used to run tracks on your machine. Do you have bearing cage extensions outside the tub as well? You can go up to a 26" tire. A lot of people including myself run 26x12x12 terra tires, but if I were planning on buying a new set of shoes for my max iv, I would have to hold out tire the new vampire dsx's to come out. The asx was a fantastic tire and performed well everywhere including swimming. The dsx is simply the asx with dual side life instead of only having lugs on one side.
l like to buy stuff and no I don't do payments!

Drew's absolutely right about the 26" tire, but realize that a tire branded "26 inches" on the side (like the 26x12-12 Goodyear Terra Grip Tires that were the largest tire option from the factory on your Max IV) don't *always* measure a full 26" tall. I'm running some 27" tires that are a lot closer to 26.2" in height, and they'll fit on a Max IV. Tire manufacturers just about always post (on the web) the advertised tire height when installed on a particular rim width.

Just so you're getting as much bang for your buck. I hope Interco gets the DSXs into production soon...

Just looked at Interco tires website at the blemished tires for sale.
Cosmetic Blemished Tires Available Direct! | News Articles | Interco Tire
They still got the 26X9.50-12 DSX tires listed, but the 26x13.00-12 are the ones everone is waiting for. Has anyone tried the 9.50s out?
But the thing that caught my eye was the
        XVAM-36 TSL VAMPIRE 27X10.00-12 32 available $55.00ea
This seems like a good price and the OD is 26.8 mounted on a 12X7 rim according to their specs. I believe the regular vampires still swim somewhat but not on par with the ASX, but for that price, hmmm.

I wonder what the OD would end up at with a 10" wide rim?

Look at this too! new sizes for the Aquatorque!

no I dont have bearing cage extensions outside the tub. but my max came with a set of half belted tracks. the tracks I got with my machine doesnt look like it needed extentions on the hubs because the track is flat with u shape cuts in them , Ive never seen tracks like these. From what I under stand I have to deflate the tires then put my tracks on then reair them, that is what hold these tracks on there is no side cleats to help hold the track on. To me it doesnt look like they would stay on well, Ive havent put the tracks on yet to try them out but I plan on trying them. Im going to look for a better track system this summer something more reliable. Im new to this site and I love the idea that other amphibious owner are so helpful. believe me ill be asking alot of questions being new to this sport. lol

I'd be concerned that they'd always try to be pulling away from the bead, being that narrow. It might be an unfounded concern....

And why in the world are they making the new 'Torq's so tall and skeeeeeeeny? I likely know the answer; they're catering to the larger quad market who like tall skinny tires that sink down to the bottom of holes to get traction.....

Ugh... we want Rolligon tires, not ag tractor tires.... C'mon Interco! We have the cash!

Tall skinny Aqua Torques, ughhhh. They really need to get in gear and get the 26x13x12 DSX tires in production ASAP. Maybe we should all email them again to help get the ball rolling so they know there's still lots of interest. Mike is absolutely right, the quad people (they're the ones that spend too much money on inferior machines that always get stuck) like their narrow tires. No thanks, we float over everything, they sink, we pull them out, we like our wide tires, end of story.

Those Rolligon tires would most certainly do the trick!

The atv riders like the tall skinny tires because the skinner tires steer better than the fat tires I've read on the Highlifter forums. Another reason atv riders prefer the skinny tires is because they don't float up in the water like a wider profile tire does ,and the skinny tires sink to the bottom for better traction. The skinny Out law tires are what all of the atv racers prefer to run at the High Lifter atv mud nationals.

will I need hub extentions if I go with the 26x12x12. Just a thought, I dont want the tires to rub on the tub.

No, not at all. The factory runs the 26x12x12 on the Max IV without hub extenders.

mynertz, you bought this machine from the guy in Janesville, 2 stroke motor, with the weird tracks, I could of bought her for $1500, but couldnt pull the trigger, she needed work, especially the drive system, but yes, odd tracks.

yes , thats where this machine came from. He replaced both middle chains and 4 idle sprokets I still want to change the rears and chains, and this spring I'll change all inner and outer bearing. It seems to turn well and runs great. I just dont care for the small tires thats on it. other then that it's in pretty good shape.

                          HI,
Try DURO tyre brand HF255 v lug with a round edge/shoulder [refered to as a "AG" tyre]
                          available in 26/12/12 4ply
                          mud ok
                          swim ok
                          hard surface ok
                          when installed reverse

The goodyear terra grip will most likely be higher $....

The terra grips that were fitted to my machine performed slighly better than the duro tyres fitted now but i could not source them economically .
