  • Gotta project now!

Picked up 3 max2's today along with a thunder chief, the max's are all rough 70's machines only 2 trans, the 295 I believe is done atleast for now, the other has a KEC44023LC that I'm def gonna play with eventually and 3 has only a good late 80's early 90's body.
The deal is to fix one reliable 2 for him and I get the rest, started playing with the 295 today and think that's ours. The newer bodied machine I will repair or replace the frame for him, new bearings, chains, bushings etc and install the 16 tecumseh he has in it and beat on it a little before returning it so we know it's good. Going to rebuild it pre 96 style.

My new beer holder spilled some on the trails - in it's hair and down it's throat.
    Joe Camel never does that.

Advice is free, it's the application that costs.

Well after months of playing with these things I've got one done, it's a 75-77 as far as i can guess with a serial number of 4793?. The 3 were pretty hurt but Pinky had the best frame which I reenforced with cross tubes, the brown one had the best body though the lower needed some welding, the brown one and the blue abs one had early rotted prop cut out frames.
Pulled the machines apart, fixed what needed fixin and bought what needed buying. New engine, bearings chains, newer clutch, made new wiring harness, new amp gauge, new ign. switch, light switch. Seat covers were good but the wood was bad so replaced that on both, new shift "ball", trans fluid. Engine needed crankshaft cut down so had that done, new Duro tires as he had 4 already.

(Gremlin check) Put her all together , had to tap the engine for the pulse line so I put it in the valve housing and mounted the B&S Mikuni pump low on the engine. Drove it around for about an hour before I returned it to him today.

There's a few more if interested in my gallery. This machine will probably end up on ebay from the owner.

If any machine has the original Salisbury drive clutch they have the year stamped on them. On the tab with the 3 bolts. If I remember right it was the last to digits of the year and they where stamped larger I think then the rest. I don't have mine near me to confirm but if you look you can five it out I'm sure. Congrats on your progress.

Thanks, took a while due to the elbow surgery in between that still hasn't healed right, some days i was only good for five minutes but had it all tore down before the surgery and there was a 2 month lull of no load at all, the kid helped some and I appreciate that.

Well better then me. I tore my main ride (208tt) down completely to redo for ash like 3years ago I think now. Bought the trainer and threw a motor in it and took it instead. My 208tt still sits completely tore down. Trainer broke a tensioner and it sat since the ash ride. Got parts everywhere.

Hope recovery goes well for you. Glad the kids can help.
