  • Max II or IV ???

Hey all you pro's out there. I would like to know your opinions on a maxII or a maxiV. I'm at the point now where I am going to buy one or the other. I know the MaxiV has more room, and a bigger engine? but your sitting up front more on the IV and I wonder if the ride is worse than the II. Any other benefits one way or the other would be appreciated. I know personal preference has alot to do with it, but mechanically, ride and other opinions would be appreciated.
    Thanks all.

Either machine will be a great addition. The 2 will feel more sporty and is more maneuverable and more fun to drive. The 4 will be easier to service and has more room. Power is not an issue since to me a 25hp Max 4 feels like an 18hp in a 2.
Both machines respond to mods very well.
You will probably get a Max2 at a better price than a 4.

You didn't say if you are looking for used or intend to buy a new machine. I think RI started installing splined axles in all their machines around 2003, and without a doubt that is far better than the older bolt through sleeve style. Which machine you go with is really dependent on your needs/wants, either machine is a very capable machine and as Noel stated, are easily modified for the most part. If you want more hauling room go with the IV, if you will mostly be bopping around in the mud, a II might be more the machine for you. Personally if I were looking to buy, I would (and one day will) be looking for a Max IV, but that is just because it would be closer to what I want/need.

In the late 90's the splined axles were an option from Recreatives and like Brushcutter stated, by around 2003 or so, all their machines had splined axles. That's a much improved setup than sprocket tubes with bolts though them.

Thanks all, I am looking for a used one and probably (sort of kidding) seen almost every machine on the web. I have sort of narrowed my thought process down to trying to find one in the 5 state area around me (Minnesota). I am leaning towards a Max IV unless a Argo pops up that catches my eye, why I don't know but I'm keeping my options open. I appreciate all your thoughts and ideas. Keep em coming if you know of something out there that would be worth my time money and effort in getting it.

Minnesota is more like Argo country anyway. I bet you will find two Argos for every Max there.

I have a max 2 and love it but if i had it all to do over again i would have gone with the 4. It always seems like you need just a little more room. We had a hustler when I was coming up and I forgot how nice having the back seat was.

Hi Wheeler....I just got off of the phone with a fella from Bloomington MN that wants to bring a low hour Camo Max IV down to me next week to sell for him on consignment ...says it has the big motor in it and a few extras...if I knew him better I would give you his number here, but since I don't if you will PM me your contact info I will give it to him and let you two try to make a deal...might save him a days driving next week. If you want you can contact me by phone at 1-800-934-0737 and I will give u his number. I also have a customer up there that has a 2004 ARGO Avenger that is loaded and going to bring it down to sell for him if you would rather go the argo route.

Best of luck and welcome to the sport, I'm sure you will enjoy it!

                      Hey Tim
Thank you very much. I do wonder what kind of money he is talking about? I know when you start talking about an 04 model the money jumps up quite significantly then what I can afford for now. If he is around the 3000 give or take some range we will definitely talk. I will message you with my email if he would email me. I'm going to try to find out how to PM you now.
                      Again thanks
