  • Buffalo Truck slipping

Hi I got a 1997 Buffalo Truck and when I have 3/4 of the bed load of fire wood it makes this slipping grinding grunt sound like a grears are being chewed up.What can it be? It did this last night when getting wood and it was low on power so I push it forward while giving it gas and it made this sound going slow and it was just the wood load and the machine so it was not even a full load ?

The belt is too loose I'm guessing. This is one of the most common problems when it seems like the machine is lacking power.

Your noise sounds like belt slipping or transmission bands slipping. If holding forward on the sticks under heavy throttle dosent change noise it's not in trany. Belt should be no more that 1/16 th inch below outer edge of driven clutch at rest and have about 1/16 th to 1/8 th inch free clearance on center of drive clutch when pinched and pulled to the rear or machine. Check the tension on the chains that drop from jackshaft to center axle. The drop chains need to be tighter than the others because it can easily ride up on lower sprocket. Hope this helps

I have no experience with Max's but with Argo have encountered similar problem. Was in transmission chain having reached maximum adjustment potential. Time for new chain or drive sprocket/s. Especially if going through alot of chains then culprit likely worn sprocket/s.
