  • Sprocket axial bolt material and belt

Does anyone know the grade of bolt used in the sprocket axial bolts, the machine I'm rebuilding has a grade 5 with fine threads ( 3 star bolts).

Also a belt was in bottom of machine cleaned it up to get some numbers to buy a couple of new ones. My machine is a max 4 1994 kohlar 20 hp and the belt number is dayco max 1060 does that sound like the right?

    Thanks

yes thats right on all, i have a 93 94 and thats what it takes, but to get a better fit on belt you need to take a center distance from center of crank to center of t-20 and call roy at quality drive in calif. make sure you have good engine mounts before you take a measurment

The 1060 is the original # for the magnum engine. Usually a bit hard to install. I've been using 1042-M3 and find them to operate fine. I use grade 8 axle bolts and purchase ones that are long enough that the smooth part is through the axle and tube. Lock nuts are a must, nylon type or prevailing torque either will do. If your holes in axles and sprocket tubes are loose you may have trouble keeping bolts in them without repairing the worn holes.

        All,

Thanks for the information, I'm in the process of finishing a complete mechanical rebuild, need to start on the winch and roll bar thought I would build it out of aluminum need to keep the weight down. This is the first max rebuild good winter project has keep me busy hopefully it will survive a 80 mile Alaska moose hunt.

        Thanks again
