Who has a Max IV 900T? I'm looking for input, advice etc. mainly on the performance of the 25hp kohler command. I have found a 2005 900T with 15 hours on it and thinking of grabbing it? I would like a little more low end torque without going to a 13 tooth sprocket on the T-20 output shaft? I have read that these 25hp kohlers have a bigger diameter clutch for more top end speed? Can I change springs for more low end? What about reclocking? I will run the 26" terra's on it sometimes and also get a set of adair tracks with 22" tires wich should help gear it down a little? Again I 'm looking to get a little more low end power out of it as I ride these trails up here in AK real slow mainly due to mud hole after mud hole. Thanks in advance

The Max IV with the 25HP Kohler Command uses a clutch for a 1-1/8" shaft (Comet 1190 I believe) that has just a slightly larger diameter than the 780 that fits the engines with the 1" shaft. There really isn't very much of a noticeable difference though. Before you go changing out the sprockets to compensate for the gearing, call up Recreatives and get the red driven clutch spring. The red spring with the 25HP Kohler will make your machine quite the torque monster. It's a simple, cheap, and effective."Looks like you have a problem with your 4 wheeler........you're missin' two wheels there"

The 25hp Max IV in my opinion is the best Max that Recreatives has ever produced. It has huge power, it's air cooled, lighter weight than the Kawasaki, better quality than the Kaw, turns 4000 RPM to the Kaw's 3800 RPM, and has the larger drive clutch for better performance and top speed. I never was a fan of the Kawasaki 27hp that replaced it, mostly for the reasons I just stated. 2005 was about the last year for the 25hp Kohler. You won't need to gear down or change anything on that vehicle unless doing it just for fun. As long as everything is properly adjusted (belt, alignment, etc) it will have more power than you can use.Everybody dies, but not everybody lives.

I have a 2000 900T and it is very strong. I once pulled a full size van out that was stuck in a logging road. It has alot of torque. Mine has the 26" tires. It has never failed me. I am the original owner and the engine is very reliable. It is a bit cold natured though. I would'nt trade it for anything.Borrowing tools is for the weak.

Well I have ended up with a 2005 Max IV 900T with 33 hours on it and some how I have also acquired a 2008 Max Buffalo with 32 hours lol. Thanks for all the input fellas. I will utilize msafi65's Max expertise to install red springs in them both and give both Kohlers a tune up and proper RPM setting. Pictures coming soon.Last edited by akranger72; 05-18-2013, 09:21 AM.
