  • Max IV Reverse

Max IV in reverse is better on one side than the other. In fact trying to turn in reverse on one side is almost impossible. Chains are tightened to where they should be, but am I right to think there might be something wrong with the T-20 and the bands. Where do I start?

You may need to adjust the bands. Does machine turn better to one side than the other in forward? Also check all your sprocket bolts are intact, if your machine has them.

My new beer holder spilled some on the trails - in it's hair and down it's throat.
    Joe Camel never does that.

Advice is free, it's the application that costs.

It turns in forward both sides with no problems. I end up holding back real hard on the left lever then I have to pull pretty hard on the right to get it to turn.

Mel's Max IV had the same problem and I too am leaning towards the bands in the T-20. I took out my T-20 in my Max II and put it in hers and it runs fine. I figured since I wasn't going to be around to enjoy my Max II she could at least take the girls for a ride. But the plan is to crack open the T-20 as soon as I get back and rebuild it along with replacing the broken band and getting the others relined.

Are your excersize springs adjusted equally??? Best way to check is to take them off, look them over real carefully, and throw them in the scrap pile.

Melt them down into a pile of molten goo first, so nobody else gets hurt with these things. Some people love the darn things, but if your transmission is out of adjustment, you have to pull back harder and harder (Hooke's Law) to get that drum to stop from-a'-spinin'.

If it just requires a "harder pull" on one side to stop the drum, the band can't be broken. If this was the case, the lateral would pull all the way back until it hit the seat. As Jim says, look into adjusting the bands properly as a first shot.
