  • New Max IV owner...

I'm happy to say that I took ownership of a 94 or 95(?)Max IV It's really not in bad shape, the body is excellent but the previous owner had taken it all apart, I mean pulled engine and tranny out, engine apart because of a stuck piston, all chains and tried pulling 1 axel out to replace a locked up bearing! I think that if he would have discovered this web site before giving up on the project, he would have figured out the correct removal of the cammed bushing's and bearing's!! Oh , and the Brigg's Vangaurd engine is fine. Got piston unstuck and the cylinder honed nice w/out much effort! My question (or plea for help ) does anyone have any picture's they can supply me with of the drivetrain?? Like where all the chain is routed, tranny set up, engine mount, cable placement?? I have all the parts and all the bolts. He was smart enough to throw all the parts in a bucket! Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank's in advance, Jim..... P.S. If I get a chance, I will add some picture's soon.

There are lots of Max pictures in the gallery here:

It sounds like you've got a very good start on this machine.

it might help to post where you are located. I know its nice to look at a runing example sometimes. Has to be someone near you with a MAX IV. If you cant find one keep asking questions there is a bunch of help available on this site. I would look at adding the frame upgrade kit to the transmission area if machine is torn down. I requires welding in 7 pieces around the transmission but upgrades the rear of the frame to 2008 specs. Available from RI. Good luck with your project.

i have a 97 max iv and would be glad to email you pics of the chain routing if you want. i just changed all the drive chains to new ones, pulled the motor, checked trans fluid level, greased all bearings, re lined two sprockets that came loose and got it all back up and going now. i have had it about a month now and these max rigs are fairly easy to work on....let me know if you need pics but i am sure there are plenty here on this site.

I'm sorry, I should have mentioned the year. It is, I believe a 94 or a 95 Max IV. Don't know if it changed much in the three years but sure if you would send pics, that would be great. Would also like to hear about that upgrade kit mentioned! Thanks. My name is Jim and I live in Southern WI. You can email me at jsfero@charter.net or post pics here?
