  • max iv axle leak

new to this site...and 6x6's I just bought a 1997 max iv. been thru all chains and greased zerks in and out snugged up flange nuts but still have a leak in two middle axles.
they will get new bearings but the back two drive axles leak just a little..can i take the flanges off those and just re seal the outside with silicone without removing the whole motor and axle and everything.....thanks for the help.

You can remove the tires and loosen the flanges. Just pull off the old ri rubber seal and wrap some 3m strip caulk around the assembly under the flange but on the outsides of the bolt. Tighten it down using hand tools, NOT AN IMPACT GUN, and you should be water tight again.
l like to buy stuff and no I don't do payments!

There is a video and photo-intensive how-to article in our how-to section on replacing the bearings. The photos and videos are for a Max II but they will apply to your Max IV as well. Check out that article and watch the video. It will show you the 3M strip caulk and how to get a water-tight seal.

I have bought a lot of man toys in my time but this 6x6 has got to be the most fun atv i have had.....i have
also sold and traded most all of my other toys in the past but this thing is staying with me for awhile or until i upgrade to another one.......these rigs are more fun than a barrel of monkeys.
