max iv bearings

I have been working on changing bearings on my 97 max iv and took the mid bearing out and with me to the bearing shop here in town. after i put it in i looked at it and it appears that the old bearing was not a cam lock bearing. it may have been replaced before and i guess i got the wrong bearing because it just has a set allen set screw but no cam lock.....did max change to cam locks after 97 or can i just use the set screw type like what came out of it....this is the outer bearing that goes thru the tub.

I don't think I would use that bearing. I would get one with a locking color and an r3 designation in the part number. This r3 tells you it's triple sealed and will hold up to our application.

All the bearings on my 97 MaxIV use cam-locks.
I agree with Drew, triple seal on the 72mm outer bearings.

thanks guys ...i guess someone has been in here before and put in the wrong bearing... when i took it out i thought it was cammed
but it was just bound up with gunk and once i got the new one in and started to lock the outer ring in the cam i realized it was not a cam lock......will pull it and get the right ones....much thanks

Outer bearing # is HC 207-20-R3. Good bearings available from buffalo bearing or other suppliers. My local store dosent stock the tripple seal ones so I order mine. The one you put in is the same dimentions but may work loose on the shaft.

I ordered my bearings from buffalo bearings last week because nobody around here can seem to get them. I'm hoping UPS will be here tomorrow so I can get my max iv back together.

Can someone please advise me of the current price for a Max outer triple seal bearing [size od 72, id 1 1/4 ] [there is only 1 importer of this size into oz so the price is high etc ]

The real inexpensive ones through Buffalo Bearings are around $18 each. The new Argo HDI bearings are similar, just without the locking collar. If you have a way to retain your axle like a split collar, you should consider those. The price on HDI bearings is about $45 each here. Do you have an Argo dealer close to you?

Yes the bearings I have insert into the universal 4 bolt cast steel/iron housings that are commonly available .
A max uses the same bearings I suspect the only difference is that a max uses the 2 piece steel plate assembly .
A suggestion to every one is u should consider stainless steel bearings . I have not checked price or even if they r made in this size yet .

Are you sure these are R3 (triple seal) bearings?

They came up when I did a search for that bearing number, but there is no specific mention. I think it would take a call to be sure.
