Mikuni fuel pump or something? Vacuum pump? Gas getting to bottom of it but not shooting out the top? Runs fine shooting ether in the carb.. I don't think it's a big deal but would love someone to call that knows better
Thank you SO MUCH to FRED! Fmints called me from the freaking MIDDLE EAST to help me diagnose my new Max 2! (Serial # 16417 - Guessing 1999 or 2000?) Turns out it's been sitting for a possible 5 years with gas in it. We drained the gas, replace the fuel line from tank to carb, replaced the fuel filter and fuel pump, and the fella had already purchased a brand new carb that came with it, so we installed that as well. (From you fellas that have read my stuff, you know I'm new... You should have seen me trying to figure out how to remove the carb before a veteran came over and showed me the intake manifold that needed to come off with it) Long story short the motor sounds brand new, incredibly smooth rev and idle. It was a fun change from the Argo Conquest I had before.

I will read around and hopefully find more information, but I do have 2 main issues. 1st - I feel like I have to lean back HARD on the brakes to turn or stop. I guess the max does not have disc brakes like the Argo? I'll read around and learn some. 2nd - NO REVERSE! GRRR! I can shift into reverse, but it doesn't go anywhere. The engine revs and I can hear the clutch/belt spinning but I go nowhere.
Ultimately I'm very very excited to be back in the amphib club, I miss my 8x8 but happy to be in the Max club now.
The T-20 operates very differently from the Argo trans. The springs on the trans that hold the sticks forward do make it hard to pull them back.....many people just remove the springs. For reverse, the sticks are backwards. To move you have to pull them back. When forward they brake that side.
Lol! So pull the sticks back to move in reverse??? Hahaha.. Can't wait to get home and do that. I was pretty mad to "learn" it did not have reverse... User error, smoke another one
Sounds as if bands in trans may need adjusting also, you have to pull back with some force (more than the Argo ) but shouldn't be tryin to break it off.

My new beer holder spilled some on the trails - in it's hair and down it's throat.
Joe Camel never does that.
Want to ride some tonight, hopefully can! Is the steering not controlled by brakes like the Argo? Is the steering all regulated by the transmission? Been reading threads on the Max but some very basic questions I have I can't seem to find the answer to.
Also at steep inclines I would lose power. I couldn't climb steep. (Steep, steep.. it climbs decent grade hills, but when i go near-ish to vertical it stalls) It sounded like it wasn't getting gas. I have new line, filter, pump and carb.
Hey y'all, this Max runs like a dream. It's a struggle to drive, I have to lean bak hard on the laterals turn and stop. It also drifts right, so I have to pull pretty stiff on the left lateral constantly to maintain straight. All of this is bearable except that it loses power and nearly stalls when on steep inclines. Anyone else have this issue??
ARGOJIM hit it on the head,,, I think your bands need adjusting. Search the site for "T-20 band adjustment. Also, ensure that the chains are not loose, and that your tire pressure is the same or identical between both right and left side tires!
Too steep of a hill will cause the fuel needle to close in the carb, starving you of fuel. I believe 35% grades is as steep as these carbed engines are said to do per factory specs, thou I have seen machines climb higher grades. Vertical,,,,,,, yeah,, I would love to see that, get some video of it!!

I filled all tires to 4 pounds yesterday to rule out tire pressure. Still pulls hard to the right. It's manageable but definitely some work. I read dozens of threads on t20 yesterday, but am now possibly more confused lol.. I noticed a pin is missing on the brackets connecting the laterals to the trans. (Top pin, left lateral.. Don't think this is my issue, but need to fix) the plunger for the right lateral is getting stuck when I pull the lateral all the way back.. Plunger looks flush with trans case. Under pressure it sticks less but still sticks sometimes. This "band adjustment" is something inside the trans?? I am looking for a good write-up with pictures on how (if possible) to adjust those brackets/bolts on the outside of the trans.
My Max II was pulling really hard to the right, had to ride the left stick constantly and when I let off the gas it really pulled hard to the right at high speeds. To fix it I adjusted the chains, the two bigger chains to and from the tranny were way to tight. I put a little slack in them and now I drives straight as an arrow! An easy fix for me, hope it helps you out.
I measured the gaps on the u-channels on the trans and they were all out of wack. I adjusted the top bolt on one side to tighten up some play and it made a major difference. (I took a members advice and cut a notch in the bolt to turn it with a screwdriver.. Unfortunately my cutter is not going to fit in the tight space to cut the other 3.. I guess the trans would have to come out for that!) I still have major slop in the other lateral, I guess I didn't even realize how "tight" and precise it should actually be. I have taken maybe 5 or 6 rides since the adjustment with the big "return springs" off. I prefer the drive with the springs on, but was unable to get the springs back on by myself. Those suckers are tight!!!
My springs are fitted to an eyebolt, I loosened it all the way releaving all tension on springs then they can be put on or taken off by hand. Then just tighten the eyebolt back down to desired amount of pull on the laterals.
