  • Max iv t-20 reinforcement

Hey guys, I was wondering if RI made a T-20 reinforcement kit for the MAX IV. I've heard of two MAX IV's that had a problem with the mounting studs being sheared off at the base. Is this a common problem with the MAX IV, and has RI corrected this issue with a kit? Cbass' wife's Max IV had this issue when we went to purchase it from the owner, and now I have found an almost identical Max IV with the same problem that I will hopefully be purchasing when I return home. Easy fix, nonetheless, but if there is a kit out, I would love to know and pictures of the unit will surely help also!! Thanks guys!

Yes RI has a reinforcement kit. I installed one on my 1995 Max IV when I upgraded to a bigger engine. Not sure on the cost maybe $80 or so for it?

Make something like this up and it won't move again. Also very quick to remove.

          onlyonce,

That's a great looking design that you have there! did you ever have the problem with the bottom T-20 studs shearing off at all before the install?

No I have not personally had any shear off. I have always seemed to catch the fact that it had loosened up in time before that happened. But I know quite a few Max IV riders that have. When they do go they either shear off or wallow out the threads in the aluminum case.Which ever way you go the T20 needs to be held down more securely than with those four bolts to the frame.

I've done several of the frame upgrades. The RI install sheet is on this site under max manuals almost at the bottom of the page. The main reason I like the kit is that it places the transmission back where it belongs for proper chain length. You need to work off a straight edge on the top of the frame. Most are pulled down a bit,or a lot from loose chains pulling the frame down. I have pics but not on my phone. I try to get them posted.
