I got my well used but new to me Max home Thursday and then had to try it out yesterday with no plugs stupid idea I know I drove around the yard and up and down some hills and it seemed pretty good figured out how to shift the T20 pretty easy so I decided to take it through the edge of my pond knowing there were no plugs and I thought oh no big deal just going across 8 or 10 feet of water and everything would have probably been fine but previous owner was a more motivated seller because it only had 14 minutes worth of gas in the tank and I was at 14:30 when I hit the water so 3-4 feet into the water it sputters and cuts off I knew what had happened sure enough I check the fuel filter and no gas so by the time I find a empty gas can go 3 miles to the store and 3 miles back it has filled about 3 inches of water in the tub glad it wasn't deep or so I thought I get it fired back up but it is slinging water around in the tub on belt and its slipping so I go get rhino pull it up the bank drain the water out and after everything dries out I crank it up drive up to shed it seems fine pour some burnt motor oil over chains it seems fine runs drives shifts great
Second full day of AATV ownership go to Napa get two 3/4 freeze plug that are like a rubber plug with a bolt through them that makes the rubber swell up in hole they work excellent if any body needs to get some plugs quick fix two newly flat tires drive machine around the yard it seems fine so I figure round two for the pond my Dad shows up at this point so me him and my three year old head off into the green scum infested waters and as soon as the rear tires drop off a little mud shelf we almost turn bottom upwards in the water and take water on over the low side of the tub the two adults where in the front seat and the three year old in the back these thing look much more stable on youtube we get turned around get back to the bank its a gradual slope into the water it is slippery mud but I mean thats what these things are made for right? It drags us out of the pond losing their sense of adventure they get out I drain the water out it honestly wasn't much a try it again with one person in the dead middle it seems pretty good drive around and try to climb up a steeper bank upon my first attempt it will not make it I then realize that with all wheels freely spinning in the water that the trans is stuck in fwd even with the sticks all the way back or half way or full forward it hasn't came out of reverse yet? I get it turned back into the water turn around and get a better line at the steep place and climb it impressing all the on lookers but on the bank after removing the floor boards still can't figure out the transmission not shifting I take the linkage loose and make sure its pushing both sides equally at once and it appears it is I try some fairly gentle taps from a hammer still no dice I am gonna try one side at a time tomorrow later after word has spread through out the community of the 6x6 exploits a friend of mine shows up and its round 3 of pond driving everything is going well and with two adults it seems stable this time but when we get to the gently sloping bank and try to crawl out it just spins and gets stuck in shallow water and mud that my rhino could probably get through with some throttle after getting out and pushing it to the mowed grass it finally hooks up but then doesn't have enough power to pull itself up or spin the tires without stalling out 3 or 4 times its not steep at all I mow right up to the water with my freaking ride on lawn mower I don't think my previous climb would be possible now with whatever is going on is there something in the transmission to cause this problem I checked the clutch and it seems to be working correctly once pulled back to driveway it drives fine in fwd but still won't shift into reverse
Previous owner swapped a Honda 18hp motor in but used original clutch belt looks ok and in line the clutch looks good seems to be working right I don't know I wondered if larger tires would help with the stability in the water and in the mud because it has the little rawhides 21/11/9 if i remember correctly but with it stalling out like it needs more power I don't know that it could handle bigger tires actually thought it would be handy to have the small tires on and just add tracks but I don't know if it could handle turning tracks at this point the Honda seems strong and I originally thought was just as good or better than a 18 briggs but I don't know what to think now any ideas or advice would be appreciated
