Late 80s early 90s MaxIV tub

I was sitting here trying to plan out next years vacation and thought that i may take a ride up to Buffalo and buy a new tub for my Max IV. Its a late 1980s or early 1990s and i was wondering if the new tubs are the same as the older ones?? would i have to modify anything or will everything go back as is? Its about a 1200 mile ride one way and dont want to do it if it aint gonna work.

The lower will work no problem. If you buy an upper, you would need new headlights and want to move the back seat further back as well as need a new engine cover.

The older models had 62mm bearings and the newer ones have 72mm. If R.I. cuts the holes for you they will be too large.... Just cut them yourself.

They can also ship a tub for $300 or so, you might want to check on that first or combine the trip with a group ride such as Ashtabula races in June.

What is the advantage of the 72mm bearing over the 62mm? this would be the time to upgrade if needed. Where is Ashtabula? Only 300 dollars to ship? i could have it shipped now and be ready for Ashtabula in June and use that for vacation.

The 62 uses the smaller bearing carriers. if you up grade to the larger bearings you will have to modify the frame.

I will have the frame out for tub swap is the modifacation something anotheramature can do or does it take a pro? will axels also need to be changed out?

DO NOT MODIFY YOUR FRAMe FOR THE 72MM if you keep the 62mm you can use argo flanges and their HD bearing which are 10X better than the recreatives stamped flanges keep your 62mm setup and upgrade to argo flanges much better option!!!
