  • Max II bearing cages falling apart

While doing maintenance on my Max II last weekend I found that the rear bearing cages all of the bearings are loose and falling out. no idea how long its been like that but its not making any noise yet but I need to repair them.

So the million dollar question is: does anyone know if the bearings the same part number as the outer bearings HC207-20 TRL? I know I have to take it apart and hopefully I can read the part number on them but I would rather order the bearings and flanges first and maybe save some time. I guess I should replace the outer bearings at the same time since I have to tear both axels out.

Any input would be greatly appreciated
    Thanks

We need a little more info....and maybe a picture or two. What year is your Max? Are you talking about bearing extensions, as in the cage type? Or the bearing flange itself?

Factory max II bearings are the same at the tub and cage. Should HC207-20R3 if it is newer than mid 95. Kind of sounds like the nuts may have come loose??? I've started using nylon lock nuts on bearings instead of lock washers.
You can identify the 62 mm and 72mm bearings by the approximate diameter of the locking collar 6mm(206) are about 1.75 inch the 72mm(207) are about 2.18 inch. Hope this helps

I have a 1999 Max2 and its the bearings in the cage that are trashed. cant really tell if the flanges are ok but I am going to replace them anyway. it also had tracks on it when I bought it and now after doing maintenance on it I feel the previous owner either didn't care for doing maintenance or didn't know how. For the most part the bearing cages are the worst thing I have found and I have gone thru it pretty good now and checked everything else.
I will try to post a couple pictures later.

        Thanks
