  • advice regarding buying a used Max II.

Hello. I seen an ad in the Anchorage Craigslist for a used Max II that requires reassembly.
The guy says the parts come with the machine, including jack shaft bushings.

Do all Max IIs use bushings or can I use bearings?

He doesn't know the year of the Max, nor does he know if it uses splined axles.
I think he may have to get a better look.
Anyhoo.... Can pinned axles be substitute by splined axles with no mods?
What are some pointers I should be aware of when buying a used Max?
He did say the transmission is tight, no holes in the tub, tires are in good shape.
    Thank you.

Get the serial # and find out what engine it has. Most of the IIs in Alaska that are for sale are OLD. The frames before about #14500 are usually full of cracks under the transmission and around the battery box. RI added gussets and thickened the frame material around 1997. I've seen no frame problems on newer ones. My advice is look for a newer one in known good condition before putting it on a barge or plane to where you are. Call me or text if you have any questions 907-388-8582. I'm back from a successful moose hunt, big thumbs up to Adair tracks.
