    Hi
    If u r talking about the round headlight [sealed beam] 4 1/2 GE4411 12v 18w or 35w .
Can also be referred to as a 4inch round sealed beam work light
Typically fitted into a surface mount grommet . The hole in the body is 4.5 inches from memory .
I do not own a max but have used this light and grommet idea from the max 2 or 4 machines in my ssfox .

The 4 has a larger headlight than the 2, if memory serves correct they are the same as the Attex and the large lowbeam on older cars. Looks to be 5-1/2 on the Attex.

The body hole is approx 4 1/2" like Tomo said....I used these, but had to silicone the grommet in to make sure it was water tight and didn't fall out.

How do them work as headlights Buggyman? Do they project out at all? Bright enough etc.? only worried they would light up immediate area but nothing past say 15 feet out. for example

YUP! you got that right......except it's probably more like 20 ft.......They WILL blind you up close though,

If I end up keeping that machine I will add extra lighting to project out farther. Most of the time the extra distance just isn't needed, but it sure is nice to have when you do want it.

Thanks for the info. my Max IV, is a 1999. It has round black metal rings that hold the headlight in place. I would like to fine a rubber grommet to replace it to get a better seal. If a different headlight needs to be used that would be fine. Can you give info on were to find them.

I don't know of any rubber grommets that would work, but it could be sealed with clear silicone.

If it's the 4-1/2" lamp, this grommet may work.
                  They have other sizes also.

Perhaps someone will give the dimensions of the newer style halogen square lights like in the 2000 up, should you want to go that route.

20 ft???? plenty!!!! And I sit behind the lights so not worried about being blinded. Sucks for anyone coming at me. But oh well hahaha

The upper body is different between the round and square light IV's.

My 94 with the metal retaining rings uses 5 3/4" sealed beams, I used the regular hi beam halogen units from a 4 headlight car, they pull more amps than the Briggs stator will put out at idle though.

                          hi
Even though my ssfox came with 4 inch grommets and the 4 1/2 bulbs were fitted, is this the standard setup in 6x6 or is better to use both grommet and light of the same diameter eg 4 1/2 ??????

The 4 1/2 inch lights into the smaller grommet do have a water tight seal . Need to use a little lube when u install the bulb . As a side note there is little room for a larger diameter grommet anyway .

Good to know on the body difference.

I thought I was the only one picking up on the IV light being bigger, never seen the 44 series lights in a IV or a rim but in all early II's and hustlers and scramblers and argo's and ....

The light itself is larger, but the hole through the body is about the same. The MaxIV light sits in front of the body with the raised metal ring. The maxII is rubber grommet mounted in that hole.
