  • Where to put the brakes

As part of the total rebuild of my Max IV, I'm swapping out the old band brakes for discs. I'm trying to decide if I should put them on the front axles where the band brakes were originally or move them to the center axles.

My concern with the front is that some hard braking on a downhill, which is where I'm likeliest to feel the need to stomp on the brakes might cause me to tip over forward. I think having the brakes on the center axles would make things more stable.

Is one place better than the other for brake placement?

Since they are all chained together anyway it doesn't matter where you put the brakes you're gonna get the same action.

But in the case of a chain breaking... in any vehicle the fronts do the most work so I'd say leave them in front. Buy what if you have an earlier pin style sprocket tubes with the brakes connected to that and the pin breaks.... SOL I guess. Lol
